Background
Global Programs for Research and Training is a Non-Governmental Organization to support the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) international research projects. The incumbent will support a range of projects in maternal health including studies related to obstetrics fistula among women, including surgical outcomes, adverse events, post fistula repair success and other social and behavioral studies related to fistula. Other studies may include the use of medical devices in the management of fistula related incontinence as well as studies that measure and seek to advance person-centered care among maternal health providers. Overall, the incumbent will help support meetings and administrative tasks of several projects. The team conducts research in Uganda, Kenya, Ghana, and Guinea.

Job Description
The Data Manager will provide key data and statistical support and leadership to support a multi-regional team working in the US, Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, and Guinea. S/he will primarily work with two portfolios:
• The Person-Centered Equity Lab at UCSF conducts research on person-centered care (PCE) with a focus on the needs of the most vulnerable groups. Dr. Afulani is the Principal Investigator of the PCE lab and studies explore how RMNCH outcomes are shaped by quality of care in health facilities as well as by social determinants to improve measurement of quality of care, particularly person-centered care, and on developing interventions to improve outcomes and reduce disparities.
• The Safe Motherhood Program at UCSF, led by Dr. El Ayadi, conducts translational research at the intersection of perinatal epidemiology and quality of intrapartum care with the overall goal of identifying evidence and theory-based approaches for the prevention of maternal morbidity and mortality and comprehensive treatment approaches for maternal morbidity in lower-resource settings.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Organize the quantitative survey and data collections through design, data collection, processing, analysis, and publication of statistical data.
• Program surveys and data collection tools on RedCap for field implementation.
• Mentor, coach, and supervise field-based research teams and data collectors on the implementation of research tools. Generate data reports on project data and activities, both routine and as requested. This includes cross-regional teams.
• Develop and implement standardized procedures for ongoing data quality assurance/control.
• Support investigators to operationalize research goals, refine statistical hypotheses, develop statistical analysis plans and explain statistical implications of results.
• Merge data across databases and check for data inconsistencies and outliers using STATA or similar statistical package.
• Prepare tables, figures, results and statistical methods narratives for abstracts and publications
• Develop datasets and codebooks for posting on a repository per NIH data sharing agreement
• Attend and regularly contribute to study meetings (telephone conferences, Skype or in person meetings) and planning sessions, including the training and study launch/ongoing meetings.

Key Requirements
• Strong academic qualifications in Biostatistics/Statistics or Applied Mathematics as evidenced by possession of at least a Master's Degree from a recognized University
• At least 5 years’ experience in statistical work at the professional level, preferably in an academic or research setting.
• Moderate/advanced level knowledge of statistical software: STATA data management is required.
• Moderate/advanced level knowledge of programming surveys in data capture software such as REDCap and Qualtrics: Ability to program in REDCap is required.
• Demonstrated expertise in the following techniques is required: logistic and linear regression, mixed model, longitudinal data analyses, interrupted time series analyses, psychometric analysis including factor analyses, complex survey sample analyses, survival analyses, missing data imputation, bootstrapping
• Fluency in English

Other requirements:
• Knowledge of the theory, systems and application of study design and statistical research methodology.
• Ability to analyze data and arrive at sound conclusions.
• Ability to represent findings and conclusions effectively in appropriate tabular, graphic and written formats.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with professional colleagues, public and private sector officials and regional professionals
