Job details:
The Centre of Excellence for the Study of the African Child (AfriChild) is a multidisciplinary research Centre that contributes to evidence based knowledge building, skills development and influences policy, programming and practice concerning the wellbeing of the African child. The AfriChild Centre generates research that contributes to the evidence base to improve on the lives and wellbeing of the African child. It does this in collaboration with the public and private sectors, academia and civil society.
AfriChild is recruiting an experienced Driver to support the activities of the Centre in line with vehicle usage policy.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

• Drive AfriChild vehicle/authorized passengers to specified destinations as approved by the supervisor
  
• Deliver packages, goods and mails and any other information to specified people, places and offices.
  
• Check the vehicle status/condition e.g. engine oil, water, nuts, battery water, license, Third Party Insurance, brakes, tyre pressure, etc. prior to any journey and carry out regular vehicle repairs e.g. correcting hard start, tightening bolts and nuts, topping battery water, etc.
  
• Monitor security of vehicle, authorized passengers and luggage
  
• Report all major and minor damages and accidents on the vehicle at hand to the supervisor
  
• Keep accurate records for vehicle usage including fuel, mileage, trip logs and schedule routine maintenance and cleaning.
  
• Prepare and submit vehicle monthly reports.

Knowledge and Skills

• At least Advanced Level Certificate of Education with a credit in English and mathematics in senior four.
  
•  A certificate in automobile mechanics is an added advantage.
  
• A certificate in defensive driving from an established school/firm is an added advantage.
  
• Experience in driving, with clean driving record of not less than three years, preferably with an NGO.
  
• Experience driving in Kampala and rural areas.
  
•  Possession of a minimum of two classes of driving permit; DL and CM Classes are preferred.
  
• Ability to work in diverse cultural context.
  
• English Proficiency
  
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
