EDUCATION MENTOR (1)
POSITION PURPOSE
The role of the Education Mentor is to work alongside the community and schools in order to provide sustainable, exemplary education in COF supported schools. The Education Mentor is responsible for creating a teaching and learning environment where teachers are creative, effective and efficient and are able to teach leamers using more practical methods like inquiry, project learning which make learning so real in the world of the learner. This will lead to improvement in the literacy levels of the learners. The mentors will lead on all the new innovative ways of improving teaching and learning for the teachers as introduced by COFU, this will involve the mentors actively engaging with each teacher in their location schools and specifically be hands-on with teachers in promoting child centered and collaborative teaching pedagogies to ensure that teachers reach their professional development goals.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE BACKGROUND
• Bachelor's degree qualification in Education.
• Qualification in Primary Education.
PROVEN EXPERIENCE OF:
• Literacy program implementation, such as Literacy Achievement and Retention Activity (LARA)/School Health and Reading Program (SHARP).
• Relationship building in an Educational Environment
• Detailed and accurate reporting of performance and achievement
• Designing and implementing programs and schedules
• Strong organization and time management diverse knowledge in education programming
• Excellent written English and computer skills
• Dealing with local government officials
• Teacher development programs
OTHER SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ATTRIBUTES AND PERSONAL QUALITIES
• Good interpersonal skills, high level of integrity and good moral conduct
• Literacy expertise, local language (especially Luganda and Runyankole- Rukiga)
• Excellent knowledge of teacher development programming in rural areas of Uganda
• Excellent knowledge of the Early Grade Reading Methodology
• Excellent written English and computer skills
• Good conceptual and analytical
• Self-directed and capable of working with minimum supervision
• Ability to work within tight deadlines for proposal development / reporting Strong commitment to Cotton On Foundation's cause and values
• An open personality and acceptance of all races, creeds and cultures
