The purpose of the USAID Learning Activity (ULA) is to further strengthen USAID/Uganda performance and improve the performance of its implementing partners, with a focus on collaborating, learning, and adapting, in order to enhance the impact and sustainability of USAID-supported contributions to Uganda’s development. ULA will achieve this through three objectives:
• Collaboration: Strengthened collaboration, both internally and with external stakeholders, enables USAID to better leverage expertise, learning and resources; and deepens local ownership.
• Learning: Systematic learning, through applied research, monitoring and evaluation, informs and improves the relevance, quality and cost- effectiveness of programs and operations
• Performing: Adaptive management of program implementation and meta-level interventions to improve the quality of USAID program outcomes.

The SLUGS team within the Office of Health and HIV & AIDS (OHH) in USAID/Uganda is planning for one day annual retreat. The purpose of the retreat is to provide a space for the team members to do strategic planning and team building to strengthen leadership skills and team cohesion.

Position Overview:
The Facilitator will facilitate a one-day strategic planning and team building retreat for the SLUGS team within OHH at USAID/Uganda.

Period of Performance:
February 2024
Level of Effort Expectations:

This position is expected to have an LOE of 4 days.

Responsibilities:
Pre-Retreat Preparation:
• Meet with the ULA Performance and CLA Program Advisor to understand the SOW.
• Develop 2-3 retreat objectives and review and refine the draft agenda for the retreat to ensure it achieves the objectives developed.
• Develop engaging team-building sessions tailored to the team’s needs and objectives to address OD challenges within the unit.
• Coordinate with the retreat organizers to understand the team dynamics, strategic planning needs, and any specific issues that need to be addressed.

Retreat Facilitation:
• Facilitate an engaging one-day retreat according to the refined agenda by ensuring active participation from all members and maintain a positive and productive environment.
• Manage the team-building sessions and ensure they are effective and enjoyable.
• Address any conflicts or issues that arise and steer the team towards constructive solutions.

Post-Retreat Facilitation:
• Develop a comprehensive report detailing the retreat’s proceedings, outcomes, and any notable incidents or discussions.
• Provide recommendations for future retreats or follow-up actions based on the observations made during the retreat.

Deliverables:
• Facilitation Guide and one-day retreat Agenda
• Retreat Report

Requirements:
• Proven experience in facilitating strategic planning and team-building retreats.
• Strong facilitation skills, including the ability to engage and motivate participants.
• Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
• Understanding of organizational development (OD) concepts and challenges.
• Experience in producing post-event reports and recommendations.
• Familiarity with the USAID context and health-related initiatives is a plus.
