JOB DETAILS:
We are looking for a dynamic, innovative, resilient and experienced cadre. The successful candidate will support MHU to sustain and increase funding from donors as well as maintaining and building relationships with partners. S/he will be responsible for assisting MHU with resource mobilization, strategic planning (grant acquisition and management) and growing MHU’s portfolio through creating, maintaining, and facilitating effective partnerships between MHU and its collaborating and financing partners, including government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Non-Governmental
Organizations, bilateral and multilateral institutions, and foundations. The person will play a critical role in building the capacity of MHU in grant acquisition, effective grant management as well as strategic donor engagement, positioning and partnerships with key actors. Main duties and responsibilities of the role
• Grants generation and management
• Coordinate and lead the development of high quality concepts and funding proposals for submission to donors.
• Proactively undertake donor intelligence with a view to identify new funding opportunities and pursue those that fit into MHU’s agenda.
• Support grant management to ensure that existent projects/programs meet the quality and administrative requirements of donors.
• Proactively engage international and local donor agencies, both public and private, in building and fostering relationships for funding.
• Identify, organize and facilitate capacity building for MHU staff in concept and or proposal development, project design and management through trainings, knowledge transfer or any other agreed methods.
• Management of partnerships
• Manage relations between MHU and other key public, private and civil society partners,
• especially the relevant government MDAs, the Disabled People’s Organizations (DPOs), the Mental Health Sector Coalition, among others
• Proactively build useful new relationships, sieving through several windows of opportunities, with particular interest in those that promote or complement the MHU development agenda.
• Proactively seek collaborations that complement MHU’s work and build useful synergies to deliver a coordinated mental health response.
• Participate in MHU advocacy efforts for inclusion of people with a lived experience of mental health problems at different opportunities and forums.
• Represent MHU in meetings, conferences, workshops, etc. as appropriate.
• Extra duties assigned by senior management from time to time.

Person specifications
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Development Studies, Community Development, Community Psychology, Project Management or any other relevant field, with at least 5 years relevant working experience in Non-Government Organisations. Previous work experience with persons with disabilities will be a plus.
• Proven results in grants development with local and international agencies.
• High level of innovation and creativity, demonstrating high professional standards.
• Proven track record of successfully training, developing/mentoring staff.
• Experience of partnerships, with demonstrable skills of collaborative working, and relationship management and the ability to identify and rapidly resolve barriers, difficulties and conflicts.
• Experience in developing, managing and monitoring development projects by NGOs, including multi-actor programs funded by Institutional donors.
• Experience in finance (budgeting, budget monitoring and reporting).
• Analytical thinking skills, balanced thought and ability to influence others.
• Ability to create and maintain a supportive environment and have knowledge and experience of recognising and responding to personal wellbeing issues.
• Good empathy, perception and listening skills.
• Excellent problem solving skills and ability to identify and address problems.
• Experience of multi-tasking, prioritising competing work and working to deadlines.
• Knowledge and understanding of mental health issues and the policy framework in Uganda and at regional and global level.
• Experience of communicating programme results.
• Excellent level of English, both written and oral.
• Good IT Skills with strong competencies in Internet, Ms Word, Ms Excel and Power Point.
