About YARID
Young African Refugees for Integral Development (YARID) is a registered NGO based in Kampala, founded in 2007 by young Congolese refugees living in Uganda.

The mission of YARID is to empower refugees, orphans and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) around Africa to overcome the burdens of deprivation and vulnerability to become healthy, educated, self-sustaining and contributing members of society.

YARID unites urban refugees through avenues like sports, English classes, and vocational skills training in order to address social issues like ethnic conflicts, unemployment, public health, and lack of access to education. Refugees that YARID serves mainly come from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda Burundi, South Sudan, Eritrea, Somalia and Ethiopia.

Job Overview/Summary
As the Head of Programs, you will organize and coordinate all YARID programs, provide strategic guidance to teams and project managers in ways that promote the orgnaisation culture additionally oversee the program operations.

YARID is looking for an excellent leader with experience in managing staff from different disciplines and cultures to produce results in a timely manner. The Head of Programs is to develop efficient strategies and tactics with a goal of ensuring all programs deliver the desirable outcome to our organisation.

Responsibilities
• Monitor program activities in Kampala, to ensure efficient use of resources (staff time, materials, partner relationships, etc.).
• Lead on all external communications, including production of online newsletters, print media, and events promotion.
• Prepare suitable reports, briefing notes, presentations and promotional materials as required.
• Contribute to collaborative decision-making on program design and implementation.
• Develop sustainability of the project.
• Provide quality regular monitoring and evaluation information as required.
• General administration including utilising new technology in support of the work programme.
• Work within the organization's policy framework, paying particular attention to promoting equal opportunities, a health and safety culture, and good employee relations.
• Enforce staff to collect data and evaluations.
• Write monthly and annual reports analyzing evaluation and data outcomes.
• Develop training for staff capacity building.
• Work closely with other members of the program on shared activities, conferences, events, meetings, mailings, etc.
• Facilitate weekly or monthly meetings as needed.
• Carry out any research as needed.
• Writing grant proposals.
• Formulate, organize and monitor inter-connected projects.
• Decide on suitable strategies and objectives.
• Coordinate cross-project activities.
• Lead and evaluate project managers and other staff.
• Develop and control deadlines, budgets and activities.
• Apply change, risk and resource management.
• Assume responsibility for the program’s people and vendors.
• Assess program performance and aim to maximize ROI.
• Resolve projects’ higher scope issues.
• Prepare reports for program directors.
• Ensure all programs have clear MEAL targets and indicators.
• Carry out other duties as agreed with the Board.

Qualifications:
• A graduate degree or post graduate from a reorganized institution in Social Sciences, Development studies, Social work, and social administration and Project planning and management.
• A minimum of 3 years of working experience in a similar position in project planning & management or related field in a reputable NGO.
• M&E qualification and experience is a requirement.
• Fluency in English.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to convey information effectively both in verbal and written formats.
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
• Knowledge of urban/community development.
• Service oriented with good interpersonal and facilitation skills.
• Experience in skilling sectors and with refugees is considered an added advantage.
• Thorough understanding of project/program management techniques and methods.
• Excellent Knowledge of performance evaluation and change management principles.
• Excellent knowledge of MS Office; working knowledge of program/project management software (Basecamp, MS Project etc.) is a strong advantage.
• Outstanding leadership and organizational skills.
