At iGravity we combine expert consultancy with investment advisory to deliver finance solutions that create tangible impact for people and nature. We do so by investing directly in companies or funds, and by designing initiatives that mobilize resources for the 2030 agenda with state-of-the-art impact management and measurement frameworks. We work at the intersection of finance and international development with both public and philanthropic actors as well as financial investors to design, implement and scale partnership and financing structures that mobilise capital and solutions for the 2030 agenda.
Your Role
We are looking for an Impact Ventures Intern based out of Kampala to support the entire Impact Ventures team as it makes direct investments in enterprises in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Among others, you will be supporting the team by:
• Provide general operational and administrative support for the different funding windows, such as updating pipeline management databases regularly, formalizing templates and processes, improving impact measurement processes and completing impact baselines, and supporting business development and communications efforts
• Conduct research (including both qualitative and quantitative analysis) of prospective lending sectors, including market assessments and opportunity scoping
• Support associates in analysing prospective investee business profiles in correspondence to the different funding windows and make recommendations for inclusion or exclusion from pipeline building efforts
About Impact Ventures
Impact Ventures is the arm of iGravity that makes direct investments in enterprises in Sub-Saharan Africa. Currently, we have three open funding windows focused on rural livelihoods (Uganda and Senegal), refugees (Uganda and Jordan), and education (pan-Africa and Middle East) through which we are constantly building pipeline, diligencing companies, and executing investments. In the last 18 months, we have made or are finalizing +12 loans in Uganda, Senegal, Ghana, and Tanzania. We are currently looking to expand our funding windows to more countries while focusing on lending opportunities in the agribusiness and energy sectors, with complementary and opportunistic investments in other sectors. Impact Ventures is a small team of 5 investment professionals looking for additional support from an Intern to help us continue to grow, while improving operations and efficiency in our lending practice.
We are looking for an independent team player with documented work experience in impact investing, banking, PE, or VC funding, ideally with a development angle.
Key attributes and skills you bring for this exciting role are:
• 1-2 years of prior work experience in a position focused on investments and / or finance preferred
• The ability to organise your own time and tasks, including taking responsibility while keeping a transparent and open dialogue with your team across national borders
• Strong analytical capabilities, including the ability to process large amounts of information and data from multiple sources and mediate key messages and findings clearly to the target audience
• Convincing communication skills, with full proficiency in English and mastering MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint)
In addition, you may bring:
• Expertise in finance and direct investments, including business model and credit analysis
• Familiarity with Sub-Saharan Africa, including lending in the agricultural processing and energy sectors
• Understanding of the development sector and development actors
• Language skills, with a preference for French or Arabic
