Laboratory Manager
Primary Responsibilities To manage the testing laboratory in compliance with the Quality Management System, the requirements of ISO/IEC17025 standard and the Global vision.
Responsibilities: • To plan and execute the activities of the laboratory in compliance with the quality requirements of ISO/IEC 17025, the needs of the clients, regulatory authorities and other interested parties.
• To satisfy the client and achieve a sustainable growth and stability of the laboratory
• Updating himself with the daily company activities and challenges, latest technology on the market and submit continual improvement proposals to management
• To design, review and format documents, contracts, subcontractors and to carry out supplier evaluation and selection to ensure compliance with professional conduct and its global vision.
• Review the capability of the existing facilities, technical and manpower requirements and formulate goals with respect to education, training and skills of personnel
• To provide technical supervision in the operation and efficient use of equipment, instruments and materials for handling, preparation, transfer and storage of items to be tested and/or calibrated
• Responsible for providing month end inventory figures to finance department
• Laboratory reviews.
• Validation of reports before they are sent off to clients.
• Responsible for method development/validation in conjunction with Quality Control Coordinator.
• To initiate reorders/replacement of stocks and equipment.
• To communicate to clients real-time updates and follow-ups on all matters related to their orders, to investigate complaints and report timely to the client
• To communicate to the accreditation body on further methods accreditation requirements.
• Co-ordinates the participation in inter-laboratory and international proficiency testing and implements corrective and preventive actions for the results found out of pre-defined criteria
• To ensure the availability of the LIMS programs for data management.
• To delegate tasks to the appointee but retains accountability for the outcome
Profile:
• Degree or master’s in chemistry, Natural Sciences or any other related discipline.
• Minimum of five (5) years relevant technical experience.
• Knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025, ISO 9001, 14001 and 18001 standards
Chemist – Environmental Lab
Primary Responsibilities
The Environmental Chemist has overall responsibility for the operation and all the functions associated with the Environmental Laboratory.
Accountabilities include performance management, the effectiveness and efficiencies of the operation including the bottom line of the laboratory, overall quality, external customer service and support and expected growth of the business.
The Environmental Chemist has overall accountability for maintaining laboratory compliance to ISO/IEC 17025 and delivers results to meet both the customers and the regulators requirements.
Responsibilities:
• Promotes and Monitors all aspects of Environment, Health and Safety in the workplace.
• Promotes the highest level of quality and ensures that the QMS is part of the day-to-day operation with all policies and procedures followed as documented.
• Accountable for the designing, co-ordinating and executing of training programs that are consistent with management objectives including quality system awareness, continuous technical improvement and personnel performance reviews.
• Co-ordinates the programs for maintaining production and quality targets, and ensuring optimum staff levels to achieve production, quality and financial targets consistent with management objectives.
• Responsible to provide technical support or direction for customer services and external clients.
• Provides objectives, performance reviews and a leadership that engages the personnel in teamwork, productivity and quality.
• Ensure active participation of group approved proficiency programs
• Perform analysis of environmental samples in line with approved methods which shall satisfy the requirements of the customer and ISO/IEC 17025.
• Prior to report, to evaluate analytical results to ensure that all method specific Quality Control criteria are met.
• Report results in accordance to the requirements of IEC/ISO17025
• Perform method modification and development where such changes are required to meet changes in customer requirements.

Profile:
• Requisite qualification of at least a University Degree in the Sciences or similar. Strong organisational, verbal and written communication skills are required.
• Relevant experience of at least three (3) years in the analytical services industry specifically related to Mining and Environmental Industries.
Chemist - Geochemistry
Primary Responsibilities
To review all test reports to ensure compliance to internal QA/QC protocols and in line with SGS Policy and Objectives, the technical requirements of the ISO/IEC 17025 standard and professional conduct.
Responsibilities:
• Optimisation of analytical instruments.
• To implement and maintain the integrated management system to meet the requirements of the international standards ISO/IEC 17025 and applicable local regulations in conjunction with the Quality Control Coordinator and Senior Chemist.
• Coordinating the preparation/validation of calibration standards.
• To liaise with supervisors and analysts on safety precautions and applicable MSDS.
• To eliminate and mitigate unsafe conditions and report the same to management.
• To understand and use the competence module in compliance with the training program.
• Monitor staff/employee attendance.
• To train analysts and sample preparers in good laboratory practices.
• Any others that may be assigned by the superior Profile:

Analyst - Environmental Lab
Primary Responsibilities
Reporting to the Chemist or Laboratory Manager, the Analyst is accountable for performing or supervising a variety of routine and non-routine technical or Environmental Laboratory tasks by applying standard procedures to complete test work programs. This position operates under general supervision. This could include routine tasks and procedures such as planning and conducting tests and/or calibrations, participation in method modification, development and validation under the supervision of the supervisor or Chemist.
Responsibilities:
• Maintains production and quality targets.
• Maintains a clean working environment.
• Performs a wide variety of routine and non-routine tests using available test methods.
• Responsible for data handling and all aspects which pertain to the execution of the method to ensure quality of analysis.
• Performs group routine and non-routine equipment maintenance and complete as scheduled.
• Sets up and operates equipment in accordance with instructions and limited supervision.
Qualifications:

Assistant Analyst

Primary Responsibilities
• To supervise the receipt, identification, registration and preparation of samples for analysis, storage and disposal in accordance with the sample preparation methods, ISO/IEC 17025 Standard and client’s specified quality requirements.
• Adhere to quality, safety, health and environmental awareness programs in compliance with the integrated management system and a high moral standard and professional conduct.
Responsibilities:
• To ensure that sample preparers are trained in sample preparation procedures, safe use and operation of the equipment, health and environmental awareness
• To carry out instructions from the Senior Chemist to meet agreed deadlines and communicate to him any relevant information for the client and other interested parties
• To ensure that sample preparation requirements are fully checked and satisfied before submitting them for preparation
• To ensure that samples are prepared in accordance with the sample preparation procedure to meet internal business, quality assurance, quality control and customer specified requirements
• To ensure the completion of any delegated tasks within your scope Profile:
• Grade twelve (‘O’ Levels) or higher, and/or
• Five years of relevant experience
Sample Preparer
Primary Responsibilities
To receive, identify, register and prepare samples for analysis, storage and disposal as prescribed in the sample preparation methods, handling of test items procedures and customer requirements, and to comply with the quality, safety, health and environmental awareness programs.
Responsibilities:
• To receive, clearly identify and record samples in the Geochem Samples Received and Dispatch Logbook.
• To carry out instructions from the superiors to meet sample preparation deadlines and communicate problems to the supervisor.
• To check that all tools and documentation for sample preparation are available before starting to process the samples.
• To prepare samples according to documented sample preparation method to meet internal business, quality assurance and quality control arrangements.
• To update all the records and registers at the completion of sample preparation and ensuring that they are properly maintained.
Qualifications:
• Grade twelve (12) with pass or better in English, Mathematics, Science.
• At least one-year experience working in a similar environment.
