Role Definition:
To review, monitor and implementation of the knowledge management and communication strategies to support anecca and the LPHS-Karamoja Project activities in line with the knowledge management and communication guidelines and anecca Uganda’s goals& objectives.
Key Result Areas
• Develop and review advocacy and communication strategies for guiding all communication and advocacy-based interventions for anecca and the LPHS-Karamoja Project activities in accordance with organizational policies and guidelines.
• Develop and implement anecca and LPHSK project specific communication and KM annual plan in line with MEL Directorate and anecca Uganda’s program activities.
• Monitor the implementation of information collection activities, documentation of project bulletins, high quality reports, success stories, technical briefs and prepare presentations, activity summaries, press materials and bi-weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports on the various works of in line with MEL Directorate documentation and reporting procedures.
• Review and monitor the implementation of strategies to promote and improve visibility of the anecca and LPHSK project activities through advocacy initiatives, proactive media relations including creating access for journalists with subject matter experts of LPHS-Karamoja potential partners and stakeholders as per the expected communication procedures.
• Develop, design, produce and disseminate Information, education, and communication materials (e.g., brochures, fact sheets, newsletters, and documentaries.) on anecca and LPHSK project activities in accordance with the communication procedures.
• Cultivate and maintain strong alliances, networks and effective working relationships with government, donors, civil society organizations and other relevant partners and identify opportunities for advocacy and communication partnerships in line with the MEL Directorate’s guidelines.
• Generate and maintain a database of key local and international contacts, distribution lists for various reports, bulletins, and other documentation in line with the MEL Directorate’s guidelines.
• Develop and manage anecca and LPHS-Karamoja Project program events calendar and collaborate with team to collect, maintain and distribute current content appropriately.
• Create and maintain knowledge repositories in the staff portal to store articles, reports, concept papers, other project related documents as per the expected procedure.
• Maintain regular updates of anecca website and manage anecca’s social media presence, including Twitter, Facebook, and other outlets in line the communication best practices.
• Review and establish Collaborating, Learning and Adapting forums at regional operational hubs on documentation of success stories and lessons activities, bi-monthly brown bag sessions to enhance information sharing amongst project staff and other stakeholders.
• Monitor relevant media coverage and leverage trends in media coverage, key announcements and high-level conversations to further strategies that work on behalf of anecca Uganda’s interests.
• Develop new communications partnerships and media alliances to identify innovative opportunities and new communications tools and platforms to profile and highlight anecca Uganda’s work.
Required Education, Training, Experience and other Skills
• A degree in communication, journalism, public relations, or equivalent qualifications. A masters in a similar field will be an added advantage.
• At least 3 years working experience, with demonstrated working exposure to the media industry in Uganda
• Demonstrated competencies in managing media and development products such as education and communication material, documentation, and publication (including web-based documentation) in program implementation.
• Proven ability to effectively manage relationships with media representatives, government officials, NGOs, community groups and other partners.
• Knowledge of computer systems and applications, especially those related to interactive digital media.
• Document Management system qualification will be an added advantage.
• Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels, considering cultural and language difficulties within the health sector
• Ability to use communication tools, equipment such as pictures, video footage and possession of advanced graphics designing, writing and editing skills.
