JOB DETAILS:

The National Forestry Authority (NFA) is seeking the services of a senior consultant to carry out a Review of Ecotourism in Central Forest Reserves. NFA is a semi-autonomous government organization established under the National Forestry and Tree Planting Act (2003) to sustainably manage all Central Forest Reserves (CFRs), and to promote and develop private forest management, including eco-tourism.

The overall purpose of Review is to:

• Review NFA’s existing and most promising ecotourism sites in a prioritised manner in relation to different market segments, and to make recommendations as to how each site should be targeted, developed, and managed in line with best practices
  
• Identify the most appropriate business model(s) for enabling NFA to plan, manage and develop its eco-tourism sites for strong revenue performance, appropriate and sustainable site development and product marketing, and successful business partnerships
  
• Review the progress of existing key eco-tourism lease-holders and to make recommendations in relation to their site development and management, and business performance to date
  
• Provide an overall costed road map and revised tourism strategy that sets out how NFA’s objectives for each of its priority ecotourism sites can be achieved together with a work-plan. A full terms of reference is available for download at http://www.nfa.org.ug. 
  

Experience and qualifications:
The consultant will be required to have a minimum of an advanced (Masters) degree in Tourism/Business Administration or relevant field. In addition, the consultant will have:

• Extensive experience of working with or in the tourism industry with an advanced understanding of both the local and international visitor/tourism markets.
  
•  A strong understanding of best practices in the development and management of ecotourism
  
•  A proven minimum track record of 10 years professional experience in providing premium consulting and carrying out strategic/business planning / reviews and facilitating change management processes, both for public and private sector organizations
