MANAGING DIRECTOR ICHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

East African Underwriters Limited (EAUL) is a member of the Liberty Group and a joint venture with the Madhvani Group. Liberty is a multinational group of companies operating in the financial services industry. The group wishes to grow the general insurance business by repositioning EAUL, through product diversification, footprint and customer value propositions in order to address the needs of the commercial and personal segments of the Ugandan insure market. EAUL invites applications from experienced and suitably qualified candidates to fill the position of Chief Executive Officer.

Job Introduction

The successful candidate will be responsible for the strategic and people leadership of the business, ensuring that financial, commercial and operational best practices are implemented for the group and overseeing new business development initiatives to grow the business in line with the Group Strategy. Key strengths of the successful candidate will be a proven track record of people leadership, an ability to build a sustainable high performance culture, an ability to build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, a strong network in Uganda and an ability to analyse and interpret financial and other key metrics for a General insurer
Qualification

• Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Commerce or Finance
• insurance Industry Qualification (ACIl)
• A Post graduate degree is an advantage

Specialized Knowledge and Experience

• At least 10 years’ experience in the General insurance industry.
• Ability and proven record to manage an insurance business
• Ability to work with partners to grow the revenue and profitability of the business.
•  Proven track record of leading and developing people, achieving financial goals, delivering strategic projects
• Demonstrate a good understanding of the Insurance Act, as it relates to General insurance.
• Understanding of company law
•  Risk management principles and practices including reinsurance

Job Outputs

• Setting the strategic direction for the country business within the context of the overall business strategy.
• Ensuring the execution of strategic priorities in order to achieve agreed financial, customer, and channel metrics.
• Leading the business by setting the priorities, living the brand and culture, and ensuring appropriate people practices. Developing the business in terms of channel and product line expansion in order to attain and retain clients.
• Ensuring there are appropriate commercial processes and infrastructure in place to deliver desired business objectives.
• Understanding and managing key risks to which the business is exposed including market, insurance, operational, compliance, and legislative risks.
• interacting with and managing key stakeholders, including (but not limited to) Board of Directors, insurance
• Regulator, Shareholders, Auditors, and Industry Bodies.
•  identifying and executing new business acquisition opportunities and distribution partnerships to accelerate tt achievement of the business strategy.
• Be able to act as Principal Officer for the business and perform all duties in this regard as governed by insurance legislation
