JOB DETAILS:

1. Coordinate all Nature Uganda conservation policy, science and information ensuring timely and efficient delivery of intended outputs.
• Support project level planning, review and monitoring meetings.
• Together with project managers or coordinators, develop annual, quarterly or other work plans as required by projects.
• Ensure that all project work plans are implemented as planned and within the available budget lines.
• Ensure and assist in preparation of timely quarterly or annual reports or as may be required by the donors and other partners.
• Participate in management teams meeting for projects both at national or site level.
• Provide input into the development of the society’s annual and or conservation plans
• Provide technical support to Project Officers and any other NatureUganda supported conservation groups such as local conservation groups/ associations.

2. Promote science and conservation programme among national institutions involved in the conservation of biodiversity/nature.
• Promote NU’s programme at the national level among decision/policy makers and lead agencies.
• Support the national or regional project steering committees in ensuring effective implementation of respective programmes.
• Provide input into wider dissemination of information or lessons arising out of the organisation’s conservation and science work.
• Support development of initiatives that help to achieve conservation and science agenda of the organisation.

3. Promote collaborative and partnership programmes to sustainably monitor and conserve all key biodiversity areas in Uganda including all Important Bird Areas (IBAs), Ramsar sites, and protected areas as agreed.
1. Identify partnership programmes and projects and highlight them for leverage support for Nature Uganda
2. Provide support to the Executive Director in developing projects and programmes for implementing NU’s programmes.
3. Support the Executive Director in mobilizing financial, human and logistical resources to implement NU’s conservation and science programmes.
4. Participate in preparation of proposals for funding programme with emphasis on the conservation of priority sites and species and scientific data generation.

4. Promote capacity building for local and national partners to sustain all activities in the conservation of key sites, species and habitats.
• Promote capacity building of national partners to support programmes through integrating Science in developing activities
• Promote capacity building of local based conservation partners to sustainably support conservation and science activities at site level.

5. Provide input into advocacy at the national, district and village levels to promote conservation activities.

1. Hold meetings with government authorities as may be required (at national or local levels) to seek support and or partnerships in implementing NU programmes.
2. Participate in national and local advocacy, publicity events and promote them amongst all relevant stakeholders

6. Support the Executive Director in governance and administration of the organization.
1. Represent the organisation at events, functions or meetings as requested by the Executive Director
2. Represent the organization in relevant local, national and international forums as required
3. Assist in supervision of other NU programme/project staff as required
4. Carry out any other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• A minimum of A Master’s Degree in natural sciences or other relevant field.
• A minimum of 10 years’ experience working in a relevant field and a proven track record in management.
• Strong management and supervisory skills, including an ability to provide oversight and mentorship to staff.
• Understanding of nature conservation, biodiversity and knowledge of tools to monitor the ecosystem services and species, and ability to analyse data.
• The ability to network effectively, and collaborate with partners, stakeholders, and staff at all levels of organizations, including the free sharing of information and technical expertise as needed.
• Attentive to detail and thoroughness.
• Strong writing and verbal communication skills including the ability to effectively write reports or develop strategic plans.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of programmes, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint and Competency in GIS and spatial analyses.
• Flexibility to work the number and schedule of hours needed to accomplish regular and ad hoc job responsibilities.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license, and suitable driving experience.
• Ability to travel regionally and internationally, spending time in other countries in Africa at least 10 times a year.

REMUNERATION

Remuneration is commensurate with experience and qualifications.




JOB DETAILS:

Main duties and responsibilities;
1. Assist Project Officers in promoting conservation and development activities in the target area including interventions to improve livelihoods of host communities, empower Local civil society groups to engage in rights based advocacy processes.
2. Support and or participate in monitoring project interventions and data collection activities as planned to track the performance of project interventions such as restoration actions.
3. Facilitate community mobilisation for meetings and other project activities and interventions.
4. Support communities in wetlands or forest monitoring and compliance with regulations.
5. In collaboration with other members of project teams, create awareness about the value of wetlands, woodlands, forest and agroforestry by outlining conservation benefits.
6. Guide communities on project implementation through provision of on-site training and follow up of project interventions.
7. Support communities to understand their roles and responsibilities as regards to access and use of the wetland, woodland or forest resources.
8. Support capacity building of collaborating partners as well as the local community to effectively participate in the implementation of programme activities
9. Support establishment of demonstrations on Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA), and other sustainable land management practices and also follow up the performance of established demonstrations on project interventions.
10. Support monitoring implementation of all project activities in the operational areas
11. Represent Nature Uganda whenever called upon at various community meetings and other stakeholder engagements and any other functions.
12. Support and input into developing elaborate activity work plans and budgets for implementation of project activities at site level and produce regular progress reports.
13. Support and contribute to other quarterly and annual reports as necessary
14. Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Project management team.

Special requirements
1. The applicant should have a minimum of a Certificate/ Diploma in Education, social work, natural resources management, tourism or community Development
2. A degree in community development, natural resources management, social work, or any other relevant subject in community development and natural resources management is an added advantage
3. Experience working with community, extension and mobilisation skills, experience of working at remote locations essential.
4. Should have good working knowledge of the project area selected
5. Should be willing and ready to live in the respective project area
6. Ability to write reports and meet strict deadlines.
7. Self-motivated, with ability to work under limited supervision, strong commitment to nature conservation.
8. Knowledge and experience in NGO work, community work, and or working with district authorities.
9. Basic knowledge in the use of computers or smartphones, and other data collecting tools/ gargents.
10. Fluent and excellent verbal and written proficiency in English and at least one local language widely used in project area.
