JOB DETAILS:
The Hunger Project Uganda (THPU)is pan of THP Global, Non- Profit Strategic organization committed to the sustainable end of world hunger and poverty. THPU operates a microfinance program and has supported the creation often saving and credit cooperatives (10 SACCOs) in various parts of the country. THPU‘s Microfinance Program (MFP) goal is to ensure sustainable access to financial services, including savings, credit and insurance products. The program is designed to make a rural woman, an economic player, a decision maker and an entrepreneur by enabling her get access to financial services, marketing and training so that she can invest, make profits and create wealth in her community.
Currently, THPU is looking for a suitable candidate to fill the MFPO position.
Position Summary
Reporting directly to the Country Director (CD), the Microfinance Program Officer Position is on a two year contract to ensure the consolidation and sustainability of the micro program tor both men and women designed to economically empower Ugandan food producers through the creation of one financially sound cooperative institution, under the general leadership of the Country Director. .
Essential Primary Responsibilities:
• To develop a short term plan for reorganizing The Hunger Project Microfinance program into a consolidated financial cooperative with branches to serve the rural community.
• Support the registration process of the consolidated multi
• purpose financial cooperative that envisions a world where rural communities have access to high quality and affordable financial services.
• To identify and build relationships with organizations that share similar values with THPU financial cooperative for resource mobilization purposes and technical support.
• To review monthly and quarterly financial and activity reports from the financial cooperative and submit progressive reports to the Country Director.
• To support the development of policy and procedures manuals that can provide proper guidelines for actions to attain the established objectives of the financial cooperative and reflect the Cooperatives basic philosophy.
• To develop well specified human resource principles for the financial cooperative in crucial areas such as recruitment, placement, career progression and management.
• To support the capacity building of the financial Cooperative's board of directors, management and staff intended to enhance and develop their attitudes, knowledge and skills that can lead to institutional sustainability.
• Conduct regular spot checks, supervision and monitoring to ensure that rules and regulations are followed, risks are identified, addressed and controlled.
• Support the financial cooperative Board and Management staff in identifying auditors to audit the institution at the end of each financial year and prepare members‘ AGM’s.
• Design a monitoring and evaluation framework to ensure continual supply of relevant data and information for determining the effectiveness and efficiency of the financial cooperative.
• Work closely with other departments of THP-U and all key partners! stakeholders to ensure good working relations prevail.
• Build an effective, scalable financial literacy program that aligns with best practices for teaching and promoting positive financial behaviors among rural community members. Creation of strategic partnerships with stakeholders in developing proposals for funding and lobbying for capacity building with apex bodies.
• Work closely with other Microfinance institutions to support and advocate best practices in enterprise development. Perform any other duties as assigned by the Country Director.
Qualification and skills:
• University degree, preferably in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Banking or equivalent degree from a recognised institution. A Masters Degree is an added advantage.
• High leadership and organizational skills with high levels of personal integrity, pay attention to detail and quality. Strong team work, training, mentoring and coaching skills with good understanding of gender dynamics in development.
• Good presentation skills, strong ability to multi-task and work independently.
• Ability to build and manage strong relations with key stakeholders.

• Ability to communicate ideas clearly and confidently, articulate issues and recommend practical solutions.
• Ability to lead strategic planning, results-based management and reporting.
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills especially in finance and accounting.
• Strong Microsoft Word, Access, PowerPoint and Excel skills.
• Fluency in spoken and written English as well as a very good command of local languages.
General professional experience:
• At least a minimum of 10 years of relevant working experience in financial sector, preferably with hands on experience in microfinance
• Good management skills of microfinance entities, especially in the areas of Risk management, Operations, Audit and Business Development.
• Experience in matters related to the transformation of MFls would also be appreciated {direct involvement in at least 2 transformation processes).
