JOB DETAILS:
MUJHU RESEARCH COLLABORATION – MUJHU CARE LTD, a Kampala – based equal opportunities HIV/ AIDS Research and Service Delivery Organisation with more than 350 employees is seeking interested, committed and reliable professionals with the described qualifications to apply for the following positions in support of the following studies: MIRASOL clinical trial, a four year US Department of Defense funded project. NeoObs study, a one year DNDi/ GARDP funded project and Group B streptococcus (GBS) study- an initial 6 month pilot study with extension for 3 years after the pilot phase is successfully completed. All are being implemented in Kampala, Uganda.


The MIRASOL clinical trial is a Randomized Trial to evaluate Mirasol Whole Blood Pathogen Reduction Technology System to eliminate malaria and other transfusion transmitted infections such as HIV, hepatitis and bacteria which will be a collaborative activity involving the Uganda Blood Transfusion Service and multiple leading health institutions.


The NeoObs study is an international multi-centre observational study (Neo-Obs-001) to collect clinical and microbiological information on presumed and confirmed serious bacterial infections in neonates, and to collect information on existing standards of care treatments.


The GBS study is a prospective cohort study that will be looking at the burden of GBS disease in pregnant women and infants and the levels of protection against the GBS disease to inform GBS vaccine development. More information is available about the studies on the MUJHU website www.mujhu.org .
Post: Midwives – multiple positions (GBS study)


Description and purpose:
The successful midwifery professionals will be working closely with other health professionals/research staff and will obtain consents, provide midwifery care to study participants as well as do phlebotomy, cord blood sampling and other sample collection as required. They will also collect data using tablets and laptops and participate in study data quality assurance and control.


Required Qualifications:
Diploma in Midwifery, with current registration for practice from the Uganda Nurses and Midwives councils (UNMC) with interest in working in a busy labour ward with minimum supervision. The candidate is required to have worked for at least three (3) years in a busy health center/institution. Experience in counselling and clinical research will be an added advantage. Computer literacy is required. The successful candidate should be willing and able to work extended duty shifts i.e. 12 hour day, and 12 hour night shifts, including public holidays and weekends.
