Job Title: Motor Rewinder
Location: Tembo Steels, Lugazi, Uganda
Department: Maintenance & Engineering
Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor / Electrical Engineer
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Motor Rewinder to join our maintenance team in a dynamic steel manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for rewinding, repairing, and maintaining various types of electric motors, transformers, and other rotating electrical equipment used across the factory. This role requires a high level of technical expertise, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to safety and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Disassemble and inspect electric motors, generators, transformers, and related components
to determine the extent of repairs required.
- Rewind stators, rotors, armatures, and transformers using industry-standard procedures and materials.
- Perform insulation resistance testing, core loss testing, and dynamic balancing of rotating components.
- Replace or repair bearings, shafts, commutators, and insulation as necessary.
- Use hand tools, winding machines, and diagnostic instruments to perform rewinding and repair tasks.
- Maintain detailed records of repairs, materials used, and motor performance.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and electrical standards in all maintenance and repair activities.
- Collaborate with the electrical and mechanical maintenance teams to ensure minimal downtime of equipment.
- Assist in the development of preventive maintenance schedules for motors and other rotating equipment.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Diploma or Certificate in Electrical Engineering, Electromechanics, or a related technical field.
- Proven experience (3+ years) as a motor rewinder in an industrial or manufacturing environment, preferably in the steel industry.
- Solid knowledge of electric motor operation, winding techniques, and insulation classes.
- Familiarity with electrical codes and industrial safety standards.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.
Additional Requirements:
- Willingness to work in a high-temperature, heavy industrial environment.
- Physical ability to lift and handle heavy components.
- High level of integrity, reliability, and a proactive attitude towards maintenance and safety.
