JOB DETAILS:

Job Summary
The Nutrition Coordinator for WFP-funded program will be responsible of ensuring technical management of nutrition activities for the treatment of acute malnutrition and prevention of stunting through the implementation of Targeted Supplementary Feeding Programme (TSFP) and Maternal Child Health and Nutrition (MCHN) program in one of the targeted settlements. The Nutrition Coordinator will work with Nutrition Officers at the Area Program to ensure that the TSFP and MCHN activities are functioning properly, providing quality care to all the people we serve, and respecting protocols and principles of good practice.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Project implementation:
• Ensure the collection of relevant background information on the area and distribution sites.
• Complete relevant logistics forms for both materials and nutrition products requirements for each site, plus confirm transport schedule.
• Schedule the distribution plan in collaboration with the store Assistant and the Health and Nutrition Specialist
• Participate actively in the initial and refresher trainings of the nutrition team and VHT; and ensure all TSFP and MCHN team members are familiar with their posts.
• Re-adjust the distribution sites and dates as necessary based on the beneficiaries’ attendance to ensure optimal conditions of the TSFP and MCHN distributions associated with the provision of health services.
• Work with the VHT to conduct community screening and referral of beneficiaries to the relevant health facilities, ensure close follow-up of cases, search for defaulting, provide appropriate nutrition education and information on TSFP and MCHN activities, ensure close follow-up of cases

Quality of the implemented activities
• Supervise the activities of the TSFP and MCHN teams at the distribution points.
• Support and coach the technical staff and VHT to ensure the delivery of the program’s objectivesand targets concerning the national IMAM guideline and WFP protocols.
• Closely supervise the teams to ensure the quality of anthropometrics measurements, the respect of admission and discharge criteria, transfer to and from another component of the IMAM program, and the recommendation for a close follow-up/home visit.
• Ensure comprehensive health checks and treatment according to the agreed protocols
• Ensure that quality food ration demonstration and nutrition education are provided to each new MCHN and TSFP client.
• Monitor the TSFP and MCHN rations and ensure they are distributed fairly and equally between clients.
• Review the forms completed by staff to ensure completion, accuracy, and coherence.
• Submit relevant weekly and monthly statistics reports to support the forecast and ensure adequate availability of the nutrition supplies for TSFP and MCHN activities for each site.

Staff Management & Supervision
• Ensure regular attendance of staff under your supervision
• Conduct on job mentorship and supervision supported staff.
• Provide technical and managerial support to staff under your supervision
• Render support in the development and dissemination of relevant IEC materials on Management of Acute Malnutrition and Infant and Young Child Feeding Practices
• Provide Nutrition education to project staff and other support personnel

Financial, Procurement and Risk Management
• Ensure prudent financial management of WFP project in line with FH financial management policy and donor guidelines
• Co-lead together with NOs and come up procurement plans with appropriate lead times to ensure timely acquisition of goods and services and track procurements in line with procurement tracker and plans.
• Lead in development of risk registers and development of strategies to manage risks across the projects.
• Lead compliance to all FH, Donor and Government of Uganda policies, procedures and guidelines that relate to the implementation of the program with limited supervision, Coordinate dissemination of assessment of risk management and accountability practices and guidelines; Facilitate awareness raising sessions and training to increase FH/AP's capacity to prevent, mitigate and respond to risks.
• Promote FH’s Community-System for Accountability and Feedback (C-SAFE) to provide an opportunity for program participants to provide feedback about FH’s work. Consequently, close feedback loops and provide opportunities for adaptive programming across communities.
• Conduct safeguarding risk assessment and integrate safeguarding measures in programs, and operations with support from HR, Regional and Support Office Safeguarding units/focal point person;

Assessment and reporting
• Submit required quality weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports including a deep analysis of the results, main progress, and key challenges.
• Liaise with the technical team and staff to ensure effective community screening and follow-up of all cases.
• Participate in all project review assessments, surveys and studies and ensure these are conducted according to protocol.
• Ensure regular collection of household Nutrition data, compilation and reporting
• Ensure regular and timely monthly reporting among the VHTs on the project activities among VHTs in the catchment area
• Oversee reporting on project progress, success stories and lessons learned during project implementation.

Coordination
• Contribute to the cultivation of strategic relationships with OPM, UNHCR, WFP, and other stakeholders for the smooth implementation of program activities.
• Support advocacy for nutrition through participation in relevant meetings.
• Develop clear period plans in relation to the Detailed Implementation Plan with supporting resources submitted to supervisor
• Actively participate in internal and external meetings
• Actively participate in events organized in the refugee and host community setting
• Coordinate with other sections of FHA and all other stakeholders in the response

Others:
• Any other reasonable duty as may be assigned that is consistent with the nature of the job and level of responsibility.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Essential:
• Graduate training in Nutrition or equivalent combination/blend of training and experience.
• Postgraduate training in nutrition or another relevant discipline is preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in Human Nutrition, Public Health or Community Health & Nutrition,
• At least 4 years of direct experience in nutrition programming, planning, implementation, and/or evaluation in a developing country setting
• Demonstrated ability to work in nutrition emergency programs in collaboration with national health authorities and international partners
• Familiarity with the TSFP and MCHN interventions in Uganda
• Proven capacity to plan, analyze, and ensure routine monitoring of work plans
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Good writing and presentation skills
• English fluency (verbal and written) required
• Commitment to producing quality project deliverables on time and under budget
• Experience working in a refugee context.
