Job details:
Uganda National Association of Community and Occupational Health (UNACOH) in collaboration with National Association of Professional Environmentalists (NAPE), with support from CISU/DIALOGOS of Denmark, is implementing an Occupational Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) project, titled Artisanal Small Scale Gold Mining Safety Project (ASGM), in several districts in Uganda. The project seeks to improve the health status of small scale gold miners, the safety of their work places, their working environment, as well as to protect the general environment from pollution, especially "mercury pollution".

UNACOH now invites suitably qualified candidates to fill the following position:
Occupation And Environment Health Officer (OCEHO) The Occupational and Environment Health Officer (OCEHO) will be directly supervised by the Project Coordinator at UNACOH. The OCEI-l0 will co-ordinate OSH activities of the project. He or She will review and implement standards, processes, communications, training and systems to ensure all responsibilities associated with Health and Safety within the project mining areas are adhered to.

Job Description

  • Identify Occupational and environmental health hazards in the Artisanal Gold mining areas
  • Collect data on potentially toxic materials for the different mining areas for analysis
  • Inspect and evaluate small scale gold mining areas environments, equipment, and practices for compliance with local and government health and safety standards and regulations
  • Assist in designing and implementing processes and procedures that help protect miners
  • Participate in the investigation of accidents and incidents to identify their causes and how they might be prevented
  • Participate in and facilitate training on a variety of topics on OHS in the ASGM sector, including emergency preparedness

Desired Qualification
University Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health Sciences, or Public Health with a bias to Environmental Health. Any other additional qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety will be an added advantage.
