Human Capital Business Solutions Ltd is a Boutique HR Advisory Firm that specializes in strategic HR Consulting, Talent Acquisition & Development, Risk Management and Business Process Outsourced Services with our Headquarters based in Uganda and Country Office in Tanzania.
On behalf of our client in the manufacturing sector, we are looking for a competent and experienced Plant Manager to be based in Jinja, Uganda.

Job Summary: This is a technical role which involves overseeing the daily operations of a manufacturing facility to ensure efficiency, productivity, and safety. This role also involves managing production schedules, coordinating with various departments, and ensuring that the plant meets all quality standards and regulatory requirements. The Plant Manager also leads a team of supervisors and production staff, providing guidance and direction to achieve operational goals. Key responsibilities include monitoring output, controlling costs, improving processes, and ensuring the health and safety of all employees.
• The role also enables the company to monitor all plant operations, ensuring efficient production and adherence to quality standards.
• Develop and implement production schedules and workflows to meet deadlines.
• Manage and allocate plant resources, including personnel, materials, and equipment.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
• Plan, organize, and oversee the manufacturing processes to ensure efficient and effective production.
• Develop and implement production schedules to meet demand while minimizing downtime.
• Ensure that products meet quality standards and specifications through regular inspections and testing.
• Implement quality control procedures to address any deviations from standards.
• Manage the allocation of materials, equipment, and personnel to optimize production efficiency.
• Ensure that machinery and equipment are well-maintained and operational.
• Recruit, train, and supervise plant personnel, fostering a positive work environment.
• Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching and development opportunities.
• Prepare and present regular reports on production performance, quality metrics, and operational challenges to senior management.
• Provide insights and recommendations for strategic planning and decision-making.
• Identify areas for process improvement and implement Lean or Six Sigma methodologies to enhance productivity.
• Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and develop strategies for performance enhancement.
• Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations to maintain a safe workplace.
• Conduct safety audits and implement corrective actions as necessary.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Understanding of plant or production management within a manufacturing environment.
• At least 5 years post qualification experience as a marketing specialist.
• Experience with production planning, process improvement, resource management, and quality control.
• Experience leading and managing teams, with a focus on coaching, development, and performance management.
• Proven experience in leading operational improvement initiatives and implementing cost reduction strategies.

Barriers to Success in Role
• Limited or lack of technical knowledge about the steel industry.
• Inability to build and maintain strong relationships with potential clients.
