About the role:
UpEnergy is at a time of exciting growth, both in terms of team and geographic location. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Product Engineer with a focus on clean-cooking to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering, particularly in the design and development of clean-cooking solutions. As a Product Engineer, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and deliver innovative products that have a significant social and environmental impact.

This role will report to the Product Development Engineer and the location is Uganda.

Key Responsibilities:
• Design, develop and test clean cooking products, from initial conceptualization and prototyping through to final testing.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including software engineers, product managers, and market researchers, to identify product requirements and specifications.
• Create detailed schematics, layouts, and documentation for product designs using industry-standard tools such as CAD and simulation software.
• Collaborate with the manufacturing team to develop and implement training programs that ensure consistent and high-quality production of components.
• Apply technical expertise to optimize product performance and efficiency.
• Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and cost estimates for new products and improvements to existing products.
• Coordinate with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure high-quality production and assembly of components.
• Perform tests and validate product designs to ensure reliability, safety, and adherence to industry standards and regulations.
• Troubleshoot and resolve product-related issues, providing technical support to production teams and end-users.
• Research and stay up-to-date with emerging technologies, materials, and best practices in mechanical engineering and clean-cooking to inform product development and enhance company competitiveness.
• Collaborate with the sales and marketing teams to provide technical expertise for product promotion and customer support.

Must Have
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in product design and development, preferably in the clean technology or consumer products sector.
• Strong proficiency in CAD and simulation software, such as Fusion 360, ANSYS, or equivalent.
• Experience with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and thermodynamics.
• Knowledge of relevant industry standards, regulations, and certification processes.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently or as part of a team.
• Passion for sustainability and creating a positive social and environmental impact.
• Experience with GD&T

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working in Africa or with African markets.
• Familiarity with clean cooking, particularly clean-cooking technologies and their applications.
• Knowledge of carbon credit generation and monitoring processes.
