Uganda Baati Limited is a member of the Safal Group of companies, Africa's largest producer of steel roofing and the sole producer of Aluminium Zinc coated steel on the continent. We are Uganda’s leading manufacturers and suppliers of roofing sheets and have the widest range of roofing products in galvanized, aluminum-zinc coated and pre-painted materials with branches in Kampala, Arua and Tororo.

We are looking for a suitable candidate to fill the position of Production Manager reporting to the Chief Executive Officer at Uganda Baati Limited. This is a senior level position that requires an individual who is able to demonstrate a high level of technical and managerial ability, great attention to detail and has demonstrated high level of maturity, good business acumen , exceptional leadership skills and has the ability to get results.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and impliment the Manufacturing Business Plan

• Develop and execute the yearly manufacturing plan to deliver the business objectives of the company including production volume, manufacturing controlled cost, quality and safety aspects, capacity and improvement strategies.
• Ensure the alignment of the manufacturing organization with the company vision, purpose and priorities.
• Ensure the integrity and quality of the manufacturing data on the ERP system

Production Outputs

• Direct work assignment in staffing, scheduling, coordinating, and planning in various sections of the operations department to achieve budgeted output
• Manage the manufacturing operation consistent with the company operating guidelines.
• Ensuring that the production is cost effective and that there is strict adherence to consumption norms.

Production Quality

• Manage the adherence to prescribed procedures and standards to ensure first pass quality that meets or exceeds planned goals.
• Ensure all products are manufactured to approved product specifications (PPAP)
• Promote company-wide quality improvement efforts.

Environmental, Health & Safety

• Develop and manage the Environmental Management System based on EIA commitments
• Develop & deploy emergency preparedness and response plan

Productivity Improvement

• Establish procedures for maintaining high standards of manufacturing operations, product quality, reliability and safety.
• Establish a formalized productivity improvement programme incorporating lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
• Evaluate and develop improved techniques for the control of operations, quality, reliability and safety.

Manage the key performance achievement of subordinates

• Track competencies of subordinates and provide leadership and development as required to achieve the objectives.
• Establish individual accountability using coaching and support and performance management process.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience

• A Degree-level qualification in Engineering or industrial Chemistry.
• At least 10 years of process knowledge and experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
•  Working experience in an environment of capturing manufacturing data on the ERP system and computer literacy.
