Job Summary:
The Bantwana Initiative of World Education, Inc. (WEI/B) (www.bantwana.org) is seeking a full-time experienced Program Director tojoin the Fort Portal-based team providing strategic vision, oversight, and program management of its Western Uganda Bantwana Program (WUBP), and supporting country-wide new business development for WEI/B. The Program Director will lead the delivery of a comprehensive child protection and response program, ensuring high quality technical delivery of the multi-faceted program, providing day-to-day program management, grantee oversight, M&E, financial and logistical support, and will coordinate with Boston-based staff on all technical and strategic inputs of the country program. This position will also support country-level representation for WEI/B, and play an active role in securing new business for the organization.
WUBP’s holistic approach places children at the center of violence prevention and response by building their agency. We engage key influencers (children, teachers, parents/caregivers, community members, local government) at every level through targeted norms-change approaches that strengthen the ring of protection around children and mobilize communities to shift attitudes and take action around violence against children.
WEI/B programs focus on the development of high quality, comprehensive Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) service delivery in high HIV prevalence countries in southern and eastern Africa. Bantwana brings a significant track record of excellence and innovation in improving access to and quality of integrated OVC care and support and strengthening coordination and harmonization of care, protection and support services across the HIV continuum of response for OVC households from community to national level. .

Specific Responsibilities and Duties:
• Provide overall management, operations and technical support to the WUBP team and manage sub grantees
• Act as WUBP lead and key liaison for program with program donors, local government, private sector and other project partners and stakeholders
• Provide country-level representation for WEI/B, and play an active role in securing new business for the organization, with the ability to travel to Kampala at least once per month for strategic and high level meetings with stakeholders (15%LOE)
• Maintain regular communications between the field office and Boston based staff
• Represent the Bantwana Initiative in appropriate for a
• Oversee financial management of the program (including spending analysis, budget monitoring, sub-grant management, etc.)
• Ensure compliance with donor and WEI regulations, procedures and reporting requirements
• Conduct field visits to assess grantee project implementation
• Develop and write reports for donors, and develop additional program documentation to increase visibility of the program in the sector and region
• Collaborate with Boston-based staff to initiate and participate in development of program strategy and expansion, and provide input on appropriate community based program strategies for integrated approaches
• Build productive relationships with local government and other key stakeholders
• With support from senior technical staff, oversee and monitor program implementation to ensure high technical quality
• Promote synergies across regional program partners through collaboration and technical exchange visits between teams
• Promote collaboration among team members and program partners and encourage innovation and testing of new ideas
• Keep abreast of and share evidence-based best practices and ensure promising program practices are captured, documented and shared across program teams
• Ensure grantee compliance with reporting needs, reviews and analyses of monitoring and evaluation data
• Contribute to and lead new business development (NBD) efforts, writing proposals and developing budgets, among other elements involved with NBD

Required Qualification and Experience
• BA and 7+ years’ program management in OVC/AGYW/youth/VAC/health sector or related field. Master’s degree preferred
• Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and management experience
• Experience liaising with senior-level funders/donors, and delivering donor-funded projects
• Experience in child protection programming required; social work experience preferred.
• Knowledge of Western Uganda implementing environment and OVC/AGYW/youth/VAC/health stakeholders
• Excellent communication skills
• Strong writing and analytical skills
• Strong program management skills including strategic planning and work plan development
• Commitment to providing high quality support and services to WEI/B’s field program and local partners.
• Fluency in local languages in Western Uganda highly desirable
