JOB DETAILS:
Uganda Reach the Aged Association (URAA) is a national NGO established in 1991. It works for the realization and preservation of a dignified quality of life for Older Persons in Uganda. URAA is a Network member of HelpAge International, a global non-profit organization with a mission focused on helping Older Persons claim their rights, challenge discrimination and overcome poverty, so that they can lead dignified, secure, active and healthy lives.


URAA and HelpAge Uganda have received a grant on Innovate and Learn from Oxfam Voice. URAA therefore wishes to recruit a Programme Officer for a project to promote a campaign on “understanding and challenging ageism to Older Persons in Uganda”.


Position: Programme Officer Location: URAA Head Office
Purpose: Responsible for a two year Action Research Project on “Understand and Challenge Ageism Campaign”. The Project, is to ensure ‘Priorities and rights of older persons are promoted in Ugandan national and sectorial plans and interventions to contribute to the achievements of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)’ principle of ‘No One Behind’.


Summary of responsibilities

  • Coordinate research activities on understanding and challenging ageism
  • Manage the effective and efficient implementation of the project.
  • Develop and implement an advocacy strategy to curb ageism in Uganda
  • Represent URAA in forums at national and local Government level: ensuring the needs and rights of older persons are included in development agendas.
  • Ensure project deliverables and donor requirements are adhered to


Qualifications, skills and abilities

  • A degree in social sciences, development studies or a related field.
  • Two years’ National level advocacy experience for and with Marginalised groups.
  • Computer literacy with practical knowledge of MS Office.
  • Excellent people, written, oral, presentation and IT communication skills
  • Facilitation, Monitoring and evaluation skills including the capacity to generate evidence based data and carry out analysis of the same
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Experience in managing a research project
  • Post graduate training or demonstrate experience in Project Planning and Management.

  • Knowledge of advocacy and lobbying for vulnerable groups.
  • Understanding the SDGs Processes
  • Social Gerontology training and work experience
