Responsibilities
The Associate will work closely with the Director of Learning and Sector Building to deliver strategically critical projects that involve multiple teams across the organization. These projects will vary in size and scope, and may include examples such as:
1. Conducting literature reviews on relevant poverty alleviation approaches and producing a summary write-up.
2. Drafting concept notes for research studies and project proposals for grant applications
3. Ensuring external consultants are effectively procured, managed, paid and in line with organizational policies.
4. Coordinating and updating a multi-country workplan overseeing government and partner engagement goals.
This is just an indication of some potential workstreams. This role’s variety means that we are seeking a self-starter who is able to thrive in ambiguity. We expect that initial responsibilities for the role will include:
1. Develop and manage work plans, oversee consultancy projects, and track other dynamic and multi-stakeholder workstreams
2. Coordinate across teams to advance project tasks
3. Contribute to process improvements across the organization and ensure proper documentation of key materials and information
4. Compile high quality quarterly organization reports by effectively liaising with colleagues across 6 countries and multiple teams
5. Gather and summarize evidence and knowledge, including leading or contributing to in-depth literature reviews
6. Draft and refine written products including proposals, concept notes, articles, strategy documents, and others as relevant
7. Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required, masters degree is an added advantage.
• 3+ years’ relevant experience, i.e. public health, international development, consulting, economics, etc.
• Basic understanding of impact evaluation, research design, and quantitative / qualitative research processes - or willingness to quickly learn
• Ability to grasp and distil complex concepts quickly
• Strong writing skills and ability to write for multiple audiences, i.e. donor reports, proposals, blog posts, op-eds, etc.
• Excellent communication skills with good clarity and conciseness
• Experience developing decks and documents for external use
• Experience conducting desk research and/or literature reviews
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office suite, Google Drive / Docs Suite, Slack, etc.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and some ambiguity
• Experience working in East or Southern Africa preferred
• Willingness to travel internationally (up to 10%)
