Reports to: Country Director (CD) / Head of Program (HoP), AWO International Uganda Office
In her absence to: Coordinator Finance and Administration (CFA)
AWO International, a German Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) working in the field of Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid, with an established office in Kampala is presently looking for a Project Finance Officer.
The task of the Project Finance Officer will be to support four implementing partner organisations (PO), local NGOs, to successfully run their projects in five districts all-over Uganda and that fully and at all times in line with the requirements of AWO and the program’s funding agency, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and with a perspective to further extend AWO’s humanitarian and development cooperation portfolio in Uganda and the East African Region.
Project Finance Officer
Duties and Responsibilities in regards to Partner Organisations (PO):
• Ensuring full compliance with AWO International Financial Policy and the governing legal framework in Uganda of all financial and administrative project-related activities of the POs
• Punctual coordination with HQ in Berlin and POs
• Ensuring completeness of Financial Documents including supporting documents
• Monthly and yearly financial reporting to Germany
• Bi-Weekly budget control and regular support to Head of Program in budget preparation
• Preparing and participating in financial audits
• Ensuring full insurance coverage (medical, asset, vehicle, possibly travel) and on-time renewal
• Digital and hard-copy filing on the server and google drive, documentation
• Checking vehicle logbook
• Guidance on AWO Financial Policy, screening and prompt feedback on monthly statements, receipts, balances, and (half-)yearly financial reports
• Regular inspection of books and guidance in order to ensure full compliance
• Travelling to project sites (currently Lamwo, Yumbe, Isingiro, Koboko and Obongi districts)
• Due Diligence screening of potential new POs and advice to the Country Director / Head of Program
Requirements:
Must-haves:
• University degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or similar subjects
• Minimum 2 years of work experience as Project Finance Officer or a comparable role
• Solid knowledge of financial and accounting procedures and financial regulations
• Work experience for an International NGO or other organisation active in the field of
• Development Cooperation or Humanitarian Aid
• Advanced competences in using financial software and MS Excel, proficiency in MS Office
• Excellent analytical and numerical skills
• Sharp time management skills
• Impeccable finance ethics with a strong donor compliance attitude and distinct ability to manage confidential data
• Willingness for frequent travels across country for up to two weeks for project monitoring visits in refugee areas and at ultra-poor communities
• Excellent English skills in reading and writing
Considered an asset:
• Work experience in BMZ projects
• Experience in using google drive
• Knowledge to speak several local languages

The assignment is planned to start on March 01st, 2023 and is tied to the BMZ program and as such will end latest on 31.12.2025. An extension is possible. A probation period of 6 months will apply.
The work place is AWO International’s Office Bukasa-Muyenga, Kampala, Uganda with regular travels to our project districts (currently Isingiro, Lamwo, Yumbe, Koboko and Obongi).
