Job Summary
The Project Manager will coordinate implementation of this new project in Uganda Country Office, specifically, the Greater Virunga Landscape in Uganda. The project will be implemented over a
3-year period with an initial inception period of 3 months. The Project Manager’s primary role includes general technical, programmatic, administrative and communications oversight. The successful candidate will be based in the WWF Office in Kasese, but with frequent travel to the country office in Kampala and project sites in Bwindi, Queen Elizabeth and Rwenzori regions. The project Manager will supervise two officers (Social and Gender Officer and Monitoring and Evaluation Officer) and will work closely with the project teams in Uganda Country Office, WWF Africa Regional Office, WWF Africa Adaptation Hub and IISD’s global team and Local implementing partners. The Project Manager will also be responsible for delivery of project outputs and outcomes to be implemented by sub-grantees. The candidate should be a highly motivated self-starter, with good organizational and stakeholder engagement skills, and a genuine interest in working for a sustainable future.
Responsibilities
• Ensure effective and efficient management, coordination and implementation of the Climate Adaptation and Protected Area (CAPA) Initiative.
• Lead/oversee the development and compilation of project implementation plans (PIPs),
Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) strategy, project milestones, budgets and reports • Tracking progress and supporting in-country implementation of activities
• Coordination of local partners and stakeholders including subgrantees, protected areas managers, local governments and local communities
• Leading and supporting in-country outreach and communication activities.
• Identification, engagement and coordination of local consultants and grantees working within existing WWF policies and guidelines.
• Lead preparation of narrative and financial reports for submission to the funder in collaboration with relevant staff from UCO and other WWF offices
• Contribute to the implementation of CAPA's Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Framework, including facilitating the implementation and coordination of MEL activities, such as data collections and trainings, with close support of IISD’s MEL Expert.
• Provide updates internally and externally about project progress, potential barriers, and proposed solutions through regular in person/virtual meetings
• Responsible for coordination of in country project governance structures such as project technical advisory teams, steering committees
• Participate in the planning and organization of in-country meetings, workshops, programs and other initiatives hosted or facilitated by the Initiative
• Work with the communication team to prepare website and social media content related to the CAPA initiative in Uganda
• Participate in the regional and global cross-site learning events
Qualifications and experience
• A Bachelors degree in Environmental Science, Natural Sciences (e.g., geography, sociology, economics, ecology). A Masters degree is preferred.
• Relevant knowledge and experience in planning, designing, management and/or implementation of Nature Based Solutions (NbS) for climate resilience, water quality and other ecosystem services.
• A minimum of 8 years experience with at least 3 years at project management level in natural resources management programs with preferred focus on nature-based solutions, protected areas management, climate change adaptation/ mitigation, and/or conservation.
• Experience developing and managing workplans, budgets and reporting for large bi-lateral and or multi-lateral donors.
• Demonstrated ability to undertake baselines and ensure effective application and implementation of project Monitoring, Evaluation, Adaptation and Learning (MEAL) frameworks
• Knowledge of relevant computer applications, softwares and team working platforms such as MS Teams, SharePoint, Zoom, Google Docs etc.
• Experience working in a fast-paced, multi-project environment
