MUJHU RESEARCH COLLABORATION — MUJHU Care Limited, a Kampala — based equal opportunities HIV/AIDS Research and Service Delivery Organisation with more than 350 employees is seeking interested, committed and reliable professionals with the described qualifications to apply for the positions of Research Study Manager in support of the MIRASOL clinical trial.


Description and purpose:
The successful candidates will plan, guide, coordinate and supervise the smooth implementation of a 2,000 person randomized trial evaluating blood safety that could transfomt transfusion medicine in Uganda. The study is a Randomized Trial to Evaluate Mirasol Whole Blood Pathogen Reduction Technology System to eliminate malaria and other transfusion transmitted infections such as HIV. hepatitis and bacteria which will be a collaborative activity involving the Uganda Blood Transfusion Service and multiple leading health institutions. The project is a four-year US Department of Defense funded project implemented in Kampala, Uganda.
Required qualifications and profile:


The successful candidate will be an experienced clinician who is a successful project manager who enjoys a challenging, fast-paced work environment with excellent interpersonal skills and written communication. A degree in Medicine {lvlBChB}i and a relevant master's degree is required; such as an MPH, MSG of clinic masters‘ degree. At least 5 years working experience in a busy health institution is also required together with at least 2 years working experience in medical research including study coordination and humaniother resource management roles. Clinical experience and demonstrable knowledge in ICH guidelines. GCP and the clinical trial study process is required. The desired person must be able and willing to work on multiple clinic activities including research and should possess strong leadership, interpersonal and written communication skills. A desirable profile would also include passion and commitment to contribute to reduction in transfusion-transmitted infections and public health impact through research. The holder of this position will work under the supervision of the investigator of Record as part of a multidisciplinary team in close collaboration with the .JHU PI and co- investigators and will be responsible for the following:

  • Regulatory submissions — Ensure initial and subsequent submissions to the regulatory bodies are complete and all regulatory reports are submitted in a timely fashion
  • Project preparation
  •  Ensure a complete work plan and budget is developed, implemented and monitored with revisions as needed with input from key stakeholders. Contribute to SOPs, data base design, institutional agreements, staff JDs and other multifaceted study preparatory activities as needed.
  • Project coordination — Ensure the activities and outputs achieved are in line with the protocol, project plan and budget. Ensure integrity of study data through QAIQC activities} procedures and strong data management. Coordinate with the different internal and external stakeholders involved in the study including multiple Ugandan institutions and JHU.
  • Clinical coordination — Liaise with clinical teams to ensure study procedures and documentation are in accordance with the protocol.
  • Communication and reporting
  • Lead regular study team meetings and calls as well as organise regular project meetings. Prepare and present study updatesiprogress reports to the Study Pl. Ensure complete documentation of study meetings and activities including intemal and external communications.
  • Staff management — Supervise the multidisciplinary study team (MUJHU based] and liaise with off -site study staff and ensure that there is a well-defined and documented delegation of duties with ongoing performance management. Ensure adequate initial and ongoing training of all study staff with substantive contributions to training activities and materials.
  • Budget and resource management — Work closely with operational and finance team to ensure strong budget and resource management in line with approved budget and sponsor and institutional requirements
