JOB DETAILS:
The Capital Markets Authority ( CMA ) is an autonomous body, established in 1996 under the Capital Markets Authority Act (Cap 84) 1996, to promote, develop and regulate the capital markets industry. CMA is governed by a Board of Directors appointed by the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development. The CMA is mandated by law to:

• Approve prospectuses and other offering documents under which securities are offered to the public;
• Develop the capital markets through removal of impediments and the creation of incentives tor longer term investments in productive enterprises;
• Create, maintain and regulate a market in which securities can be issued and traded in an orderly, fair and efficient manner;
• Protect investors;
• Operate an investor compensation fund.
  CMA is seeking to recruit a qualified and self-motivated individual to join its team as follows;

Post: Research and Market Development Officer
Reports to: Director Research and Market Development

Job Purpose:

The job holder will research and make presentations to stakeholders aimed at demonstrating the business case for market based financing as well as support market development activities.

Key Responsibilities/ Deliverables

• Undertake action research to demonstrate the business case for market based financing among external stakeholders;
• Undertake research and generate research papers to support the market supervision department in handling applications;
• Undertake research and develop research papers to support the legal department in reviewing the regulatory framework.
• Development of regulatory impact assessments (the business case for regulations);
• Manage operational aspects of the CMA’s investor and issuer education campaigns; and
• Periodically communicate research findings to intermediaries, industry /trade associations and professional bodies on the existence and benefits of market based financing, and investing in capital markets
• Perform any other related duties that may be assigned from time to time,

Person Specifications
Person Specification Education and Training:

An upper second or first class Bachelor's degree from a recognized institution/ university in Economics, Statistics, Commerce, Business Administration (Finance) or any other related subject. Possession of a professional qualification in a relevant discipline will suffice for the absence of a first degree. A postgraduate qualification In corporate finance or related field will be an added advantage.

Skills and Experience:

At least three (3) years’ relevant research work experience preferably in the financial sector industry and with broad knowledge or interest in financial services in general, and in capital markets in particular. Advanced computer literacy i.e. proficiency in Microsoft Office-power point, excel, word is required.
