MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Review and assess the UTB’s activities in relation to its objectives and assess the quality of internal controls including the effectiveness and efficiency of operations, reliability of the financial reporting and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement an internal audit plan aligned with the strategic objectives of UTB.
- Conduct risk-based audits of various operational, financial, and administrative functions.
- Assess the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls, compliance with applicable laws and policies, and financial reporting processes.
- Provide recommendations for improving internal controls, processes, and organizational efficiencies.
- Follow up on audit recommendations and evaluate the extent of implementation.
- Prepare comprehensive audit reports and present findings to the Audit Committee and Management.
- Advise management on governance, risk management, and compliance matters.
- Ensure proper maintenance of audit files, supporting documentation, and records in accordance with professional standards.
- Conduct special investigations and ad-hoc reviews as required.
- Participate in the development and review of UTB policies and procedures.
- Train and mentor junior audit staff and build capacity in the audit function.
Required Personal Attributes:
- High level of integrity and professionalism.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Attention to detail and high degree of accuracy.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s (Hons) degree in Commerce, Finance, Business Administration (Accounting Option), Statistics or any related field majoring in Accounting or Finance from a recognized institution.
- Master’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or any other related courses is an added advantage.
- Must possess professional Accounting Qualifications like ACCA, CPA, CIMA or CIA and must be a full member of ICPAU (Certified Public Accountants of Uganda).
- Certification in Information Systems Audit (CISA) is an added advantage.
EXPERIENCE
At least 5 years of working experience in Auditing, Finance and Accounting, 3 of which should be in auditing in a reputable public institution, 3 of which should be at a supervisory level and 3 of which should be in auditing of work from a reputable organization
