JOB DETAILS:
Salary Scale U3
Reports to: Principal Marine Engineer
Supervises: Marine Officer
Duty Station: Head Quarters
Terms of Appointment: Contract (Renewable subject to satisfactory performance)
Main purpose:
Participate and assist in design, develop and coordinate maintenance and repair of marine machinery and related equipment including propulsion machines and power supply systems for installation on vessels and standards.
Qualification and experience
1. Hon degree in Mechanical Engineering or Marine Engineering and automotive engineering.
2. Must have a certificate for a Master or Chief Officer with Class 3 for Deck Officer on watch.
3. Must have certificates in the following: Medical care, Advanced fire fighting, Global Maritime Distress and Safety Systems (GMDSS), Personal Safety and Social Responsibility (PSSR)
4. Must be proficient in survival rescue boat, fire fighting; ISPS Ship Security Officer, Personal Survival Techniques.
5. Three (3) years' work in marine engineering environment 6. Valid license

Background
The Government of Uganda, through the Department of Water Quality Management under the Directorate of Water Resources Management in the Ministry of Water and Environment is implementing a three tier Laboratory system comprising the National Water Quality Reference Laboratory in Entebbe and four (4) Regional Water Quality Laboratories in the Water Management Zones in line with the National Water Quality Management Strategy. To date all the four (4) Regional Water Quality Laboratories are fully equipped with basic equipment and functional. Furthermore, the upgrading of the National Water Quality Reference Laboratory in Entebbe and its accreditation to the international standard is at advance stages. In addition, a Water Research Vessel to support lake water quality monitoring on Lake Victoria is under construction and ready for delivery.
The Ministry of Water and Environment under the Inner Murchison Clean-up Project, Portable Water Project and IASA Project has planned to recruit 16 staff on contract basis to implement the activities of these projects including a five (5) member crew urgently required for operation and maintenance of the water vessels due for delivery and commissioning by May 2023.
