War Child Holland has been operating in Uganda since 2004 in West Nile and South Western Uganda.

Title: Senior Research Coordinator (1 Position)
Duty Station: Kampala
Start Date: As Soon As Possible
Reports to: Senior Researcher based in Amsterdam
Contract Duration: 1 year with possibility of extension
The Senior Research Coordinator (Learning through Play) is responsible for coordinating and
supervising War Child’s regional research portfolio under the PlayMatters consortium project, funded by the LEGO Foundation. Under the leadership of the Senior Researcher/Deputy Project Director for Research, the Senior Research Coordinator (SRC) is responsible for supervision and mentoring of country-level staff coordinating individual research projects in Uganda. The SRC ensures timely and coordinated implementation of a research portfolio that meets essential requirements of both scientific research and good humanitarian practice, as well as supporting research design and analysis, quality assurance, and providing technical inputs where relevant.
The Senior Research Coordinator also contributes to and engages with the East African research community through collaboration with East African research networks, organizations, academics, and institutes.
Major Roles and Responsibilities;
• Provide technical and process support for War Child’s PlayMatters research program
• Develop, supervise, and coordinate research processes
• Contribute to research capacity building and knowledge sharing
• People Management
Qualifications, Skills and Competence required;
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as monitoring and evaluation, social science & Social
• work, or a related discipline
• Master's degree in a relevant field is an added advantage.
• Minimum 4 years of relevant human subjects primary research experience (e.g. child-focused
• MHPSS, SEL, play-based programs, social sciences research with refugee populations)
• Minimum 4 years of research/programme implementation experience in East Africa
• Minimum 4 years of experience in supervision and mentoring of research staff and students
• Significant experience with different study designs, in any case experience with randomised control trials is required
• Familiarity with implementation research design and methodologies
• Knowledge of and linkages with research networks, structures, and systems in East Africa
• Demonstrated technical knowledge related to MHPSS or learning through play
• Advanced familiarity with SPSS or STATA, Dedoose
• Demonstrated understanding of factors affecting conflict-affected children and families in East Africa
• Planning, sequencing, and coordination of complex multi-site processes
• Excellent communication skills in English (oral and written)
• Cultural sensitivity and competency
• Flexibility, and ability to adapt processes to varying contexts
• Practicality and ability to link research processes with program and service provision goals
• Able to work and influence across organisations, geographies, and cultures
• Able to think through randomisation and sampling issues
• Enjoys mentoring and supervising emerging researchers and students
