The Power Africa Uganda Accelerator is looking to hire a Solar Market Development Specialist to support the Uganda Solar Energy Association (USEA) in increasing sales of solar products throughout Uganda. This is a one-year position which may be extended for an additional one-year period and will be based in Kampala, Uganda. The Power Africa Uganda Accelerator activity seeks to rapidly increase the level of electricity access using off-grid and on-grid solutions. One strategy to achieve this will be on expanded use of solar Photo Voltaic solutions through targeted assistance to USEA member firms.

The Solar Market Development Specialist will be responsible for the following:

• Expanding solar product sales to new areas; testing and implementing innovative ways to reach consumers, accessing finance for rural expansion, including supporting USEA in accessing donor funds, loan applications or in grant fund competitions.
• Drive the development of targeted awareness campaigns, especially for remote areas; introduce and promote productive- use solutions, e.g. solar irrigation, solar cooling, etc.
• Manage a minimum of nine regional and one national solar fairs. Fairs will provide outlets for sales, raise consumer awareness and create a structured forum for regional stakeholders.
• Support business incubation activities such as the Stanbic Business Incubator or those tailored for USEA members; support solar business events hosted by the Power Africa Accelerator and USEA members regarding new technologies or financing strategies for stand-alone solar and mini/micro-grids.
• Supporting monitoring of sales and activities of USEA member companies (providing data to the Power Africa Accelerator will be a requirement). Introduce companies in need of transaction advisory services to the Power Africa Uganda Accelerator.

The Power Africa Uganda Accelerator will support the Specialist to gather and disseminate market intelligence; collect and disseminate data (such as sales, location of sales, gender distribution, etc); publicize relevant USEA information; communicate sales to Global Off Grid Lighting Association (GOGLA); design and implement impact studies.

Qualifications:
A master's degree in marketing, business development or related field; technical training in solar technology (e.g., solar photo voltaic solutions, off-grid energy and power, etc).The candidate should have at least 5 years‘ experience in a market development expert position. The position requires the ability to prioritize and manage activities within projects in a timely manner, build and maintain relationships with various stakeholders, effectively and correctly communicate the project activities to a wide variety of audiences, and work with minimal supervision. The position is based in Kampala, Uganda, but the requires travel within the country at least 30-50% of the time.
