Job Title: Sustainable Coffee Value Chain Manager / Senior Agronomist
Duty station: Namanve Reports to: Sustainability Manager
Job Purpose
The job holder will work closely with the sustainability team in delivering (and creating new) innovative and robust projects implemented in the value chains, by partnering with various organisations, from initial concept through to project sign off and implementation. This role actively supports the scheme managers in all regions, and directly supervises the Namanve based Coffee agronomist
Duties and Responsibilities.
Sustainable coffee value chain manager:
• Oversee and drive development and management of sustainable coffee supply chains at country level including partner projects implemented across all country regions.
• Support field teams across our main regional operations including planning, reporting, performance and budgeting.
• Continue to build a working culture that supports an entrepreneurial approach in the management of the supply chains and implementation of partner projects.
• Develop and manage working relationship with internal and external partners
• Integrate coffee component activities with other value chain / project components including gender, child education, access to finance, environment and certification, client and partner compliance requirements.
• Continuously improve implementation strategies based on feedback from staff, farmers, clients, and partners.
Senior agronomist
• Drive the overall coffee agronomy strategy and related activities with small holder coffee farmers across all regions
• Drive coffee agronomy and knowledge sharing by supporting identification of innovations to boost farmer adoption
• Drive design, improvement and delivering of trainings (content and implementation plans) on coffee production, product quality, demo and model plots, nursery management, coffee and climate change and other related topics (aligned GAP / regenerative agronomy/Volcafe Way).
• Lead crop surveys and collection of weather, leaf, soil, and water related data
• Support the use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) including data collection, data use and data analyses
• Support - coordinate (special projects (to be agreed with line manager)
Required qualifications, experiences, and competencies
• Master's degree (desirable) or Bachelor's degree in agronomy, plant science, business and administration, sociology, or other related discipline.
• Minimum of 3 years experience in sustainability field work working with farmers particularly in Coffee farm.
• Working knowledge related to coffee crop and Uganda is added advantage.
• Must have rich experience of working in field with the farmers.
• Must fit with farm operations, Coffee crop and farm management philosophy.
• Demonstrates high attention to detail with excellent leadership, management, and planning skills, with a history of working independently and within agreed timelines.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills Computer literacy i.e., proficiency in MS office package
• Proven ability to make PPT and write projects and progress reports.
• Ability to gather data, compile information and prepare reports.
