The Government of Uganda launched the Uganda Giants Club Conservation and Tourism investment Initiative in October 2017. The initiative is supported by the Government of Uganda, Space for Giants, UNDP and the African Wildlife Foundation. Government is desirous of recruiting a Technical Advisor to assist the Uganda Wildlife Authority to deliver on this initiative.

The Giants Club has therefore, at the request of the Uganda Government, formed a Technical Unit to provide targeted support to this initiative. The Technical Unit comprises of representatives from the Giants Club, Space for Giants and the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) supported by Conservation Capital.

The key functions of the Technical Advisor are:

• Facilitate delivery of necessary technical and management support to Ugandan contracting authorities.
• Support the design and implementation of the agreed investment process for responsible tourism concessions and report regularly to the Technical Unit and other stakeholders.
• Coordinate and support the process of new PPP development for co~management of protected areas including support to feasibility studies, public tendering, evaluation, investor selection, contracts.
• Provide input towards the development of selection criteria and standards for all types of new investments to ensure conservation compatibility and value for money for the Government of Uganda.
• Act as key liaison and coordinator for activities between the Technical Unit, the Giants Club and stakeholders including the Government agencies, project partners and private sector investors.
• Regularly update the Technical Unit on progress against agreed milestones. Update UWA Management / Contracting Authorities on project progress through regular reporting and briefs.
• In collaboration with the relevant authorities, participate in reviewing existing protected area General Management Plans (GMPs).
• Proactively engage with project stakeholders to identify other capacity gaps relevant to the development of responsible tourism across Uganda's network of protected areas.

Skills and Experience: The ideal candidate will have proven experience working with Government, private sector or third sector organisations to develop responsible nature-based tourism products and initiatives in an East African context.

Reporting and Delivery: The position will report to the Steering Committee created by H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the President of Uganda and Chaired by the Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities to deliver support to the above initiative. The role will be based in Kampala, Uganda, and will deliver the work primarily via an attachment at the offices of the Uganda Wildlife Authority, responsible to the Executive Director.
