JOB DETAILS:
Advocacy Strategy Development and Execution
· Oversee the development and execution of an advocacy strategy to promote political support and/or accountability and policy change for improving outcomes related to PMTCT (prevention of mother to child transmission) and pediatric HIV treatment with the African Union and with regional economic and policymaking entities.
· Work with the Vice President to monitor emerging issues and assess Africa-based advocacy opportunities to affect change in areas that impact the Foundation’s mission.
· Consult on and contribute to the development of funding proposals in support of public policy and advocacy activities at the global and country levels.

Build, Maintain, and Manage Partnership with the African Union and other Africa Stakeholders including Parliamentarians.
· Engage directly with the African Union Commission and is related entities to execute on AU-related strategic activities and ensure that pediatric HIV/AIDS and TB are prioritized within relevant continental fora.
· Establish and expand partnerships and networks with stakeholders, advocates and influencers at the continental and sub-regional levels including with institutions such as African Union Development Agency-NEPAD, East African Community (EAC), South African Development Community (SADC), among others.
· Spearhead the Foundation’s efforts to sensitize and engage with African parliamentarians on national and regional level pediatric HIV/AIDS and TB issues, including child rights/health rights and domestic financing for health.
· Collaborate with other HIV/AIDS, health, and international organizations to ensure common views that promote ending pediatric AIDS and childhood TB are advanced effectively at the continental and sub-regional levels including providing coalition leadership, as necessary.

Strategic Representation of EGPAF in Key Regional and Global Forums
· Using the Foundation’s accomplishments and expertise in fighting AIDS globally, produce Africa-contextualized advocacy documents and presentations for internal and external purposes including translating technical information for non-technical audiences such as parliamentarians, policy makers and advocates.
· Collaborate with the communications team and other Foundation staff as needed to develop strong and effective advocacy and media messages to promote the Foundation’s mission and position the Foundation as a leader on the elimination of pediatric HIV/AIDS in Africa.

Management of the PUBLIC POLICY AND ADVOCACY (PPA) Africa Function and Team
· Oversee the development of national level advocacy efforts and Africa-based PPA staff functions that support Country Communications and Advocacy Officers in developing and executing country advocacy strategies, including review of documents, training, mentoring and country visits, as necessary.
· Manage staff engagement on technical assistance related to national level
· Supervise, mentor, coach, and counsel the Africa-based public policy and advocacy team.
· Ensure that Foundation leadership is kept apprised and informed on key Africa-focused public policy and advocacy issues as necessary for effective organizational decision-making.

To be successful, you will be:
· 10+ years’ experience of demonstrated success in policy, advocacy, and communications in Africa.
· Ability to travel internationally up 15% of the calendar year, sometimes on short notice.
· Specialized knowledge related to advancing policy issues through African continental and regional policymaking bodies.
· Proven leadership skills directing a diverse team across time zones and geographies.
· Extensive experience in successfully building critical, long term, engaging relationships with stakeholders and relevant partners.
· Demonstrated ability to work independently and to take initiative yet remain cognizant of team goals.
· A strategist who manages a high volume of tasks and is adept at planning, prioritizing, organizing, and following through.
· A strong communicator, facilitator, collaborator, and coordinator with outstanding interpersonal skills; must have credibility, good judgment, honesty, and integrity.
· A team player who can skillfully coordinate activities with senior management, project directors, and staff, and who has the sensitivity and interpersonal skills to work cooperatively with a group of diverse personalities.
· Decisive, independent, and resourceful with the ability to anticipate and act on events and opportunities in an appropriate and thoughtful manner
· In possession of a strong, personal commitment to the overall mission of The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation

Bonus points if you have:
· Working knowledge of French preferred
