JOB DETAILS:
Reporting to the Head Communication and Policy, the Communications and Advocacy advisor will oversee the development of consistent and engaging content for Marie Stopes’ internal and external communications. This will include preparing detailed and informative media reports, articles, press releases, and social media content. They will also support development of marketing materials. He/she will further oversee the production of high-quality content that engages clients and builds brand recognition. The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator, with brilliant presentation, written and organizational skills.
He/ She will support the implementation of the Communication and Advocacy strategy and will work collaboratively with channel leads, field staff and implementation partners to standardize and improve communications efforts and raise the profile of MSUG positioning it as the thought and practice leader in Sexual Reproductive Health in Uganda and globally.

Key Responsibilities
• Communications
• Lead implementation of the communications strategy
• Manage the country intranet page, and regularly update the backup shared drive ensuring that information is up to date and accessible to all employees; also work with LSO communication liaison to share stories from MS-UG country program to be featured on more together news blog.
• Manage the organizations website, regularly update the site with key highlights as well as monitor website indicators.
• Prepare and publish both the internal and external MSUG newsletters highlighting MSUG key events.
• Continuously monitor and ensure immediate detection and notification of controversial content about MSUG and report them to the Head of communications and policy
• Support all channels with documentation of success stories and best practices from project activities and ensure proper dissemination.
• Pro-actively explore opportunities to promote MSUG’s work, with particular focus on Uganda outlets and in accordance with the Communications team’s strategy and objectives.
• Public Relations and partnerships
• Represent MSUG at different forums including advocacy engagements, MOH meetings, conferences, BCC technical working group, and radio talk shows
• Develop and manage the communications calendar and identify key national and international events where Marie stopes works, and results can be disseminated to enhance visibility.
• Develop strategic partnerships with CSO’s and private organization’s to enhance collaboration and linkages
• Support and organize meetings and events aimed at increasing visibility for the organization. This includes MSUG partnership day, product and campaign launches
• Advocacy
• Develop and implement the MSUG advocacy strategy and workplan
• Research and draft media pitches for local and national media, crafting stories from case studies from MSUG programs and creating compelling narrative from policy and advocacy briefs.
• Coordinate media engagements including, field visits, media buying and pitching, brown bags, media cafes, sensitizations.
• Work with channel leads to identify advocacy priorities within their channels and ensure that these are integrated into MSUG’s advocacy strategy.
• Track advocacy activities and ensure that these are implemented, and activity reports availed for the same.
• Social media engagement and Digital Presence
• Develop and implement the MSUG digital marketing strategy with the major aim of converting users to actual clients at the service delivery channels.
• Create high quality content.
• Regularly update MSUG social media pages (Instagram, twitter, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn)
• Plan digital campaigns and promote MSUG services, products and the contact center.
• Generate monthly analytics and share with the head of communications.
• Manage Nano, macro and micro influencers
• Promote Website blogs to increase MSUG website visitors and increase client footfall at MSUG service delivery channels.
• Visibility and Branding
• Ensure the correct use of Marie Stopes UG’s identity and that or partners and donors, in respect to existing branding guidelines.
• Ensure the quality production of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials.
• Ensure quality branding of assets and other cooperate branding materials like diaries and calendars for MSUG and that of partners, where applicable.
• Ensure that staff are branded during field visits and external meetings.
• Ensure proper storage and maintenance of all branding and visibility materials

Experience
• Minimum 5 years working experience in a busy office environment, preferably within an international NGO.
• Experience in writing donors required.
• Experience in building relationships with external partners.
• Experience representing an organization to external partners at a high level.
• Experience is developing and running social media campaigns
• Experience in InDesign or Canva usage
• Experience in Health communication and advocacy
• Interpersonal communication skills, individually and in groups, with an ability to work as an active member of teams.
• Able to multi-task and efficiently manage competing priorities.
• Possess leadership personality, and ability to take on and solve problems quickly and efficiently;
• Hands on experience and ability to work independently with minimum supervision. Ability to work in deadline driven/results-oriented atmospheres.

Qualifications and Training (essential/desirable)
• Minimum of a master’s degree in the relevant fields (mass communication, health communications or related field.
• Additional training in digital marketing, policy development, and website management (Umbraco) is an added advantage.
