Job Summary:
The position holder is responsible for supporting the successful rollout and implementation of the credit product in the Uganda market. Reporting to the Head of Credit, the role involves localizing and implementing existing credit strategies, policies, and frameworks while bringing in relevant market insights to ensure effectiveness. The Credit Manager will oversee credit operations, manage risk, and work cross-functionally to drive uptake, portfolio quality, and profitability.
This role is critical in maintaining operational excellence, ensuring compliance, and optimizing performance of the credit offering to support long-term business growth in the region.
Key Responsibilities:
Business Development.
- Monitor credit performance against revenue targets.
- Work with commercial and sales teams to drive credit product uptake.
- Propose campaigns or initiatives to increase adoption and retention.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients and stakeholder, ensuring a deep understanding of their business needs.
Operational Effectiveness and Risk Management
- Researching and assessing the creditworthiness of potential customers.
- Identifying and approaching potential clients to take up loan services
- Creating credit scoring models to assess the risk/viability of loans
- Following up with clients to manage debt settlement, loan repayment terms and other negotiations
- Debt collection & management
Strategy Implementation & Local Market Alignment
- Translate group-level strategy into market-relevant action plans.
- Develop and implement credit growth targets tailored for Uganda.
- Identify opportunities and challenges in the local credit space.
- Provide regular market intelligence to the Head of Credit and management.
Compliance and Regulatory management
- Ensure all credit operations comply with Bank of Uganda regulations and data privacy laws.
- Support internal and external audits
- Maintenance of all documentation and reports as per local and company policies.
- Maintain updated credit policies and operational manuals.
Reporting
- Preparing reports that summarize the total loans given out, target collections, and potential bad debts.
- Advising the company on strategy relating to credit and loan disbursement.
Education, Skills & Experience Required:
- Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting, Banking, Economics or Finance
- Knowledge of accepted accounting principles and practices, QuickBooks, ERP
- At least 3 years as a Credit Manager in a financial institution.
- Keen eye for details, exceptional negotiation skills, excellent communication and presentation skills, firmness, strategizing and organizational skills. Decision making skills
- Proficiency in MS Office
