Background
Energizing Development (EnDev) is a global multi-donor partnership implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft fiir international Zusammenarbeit (GlZ) that facilitates access to modern energy services in 25 countries worldwide in Uganda, EnDev, under the Promotion of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Program (PREEEP) cooperates closely with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD).

EnDev Uganda promotes access to modern energy services to Ugandan households, social institutions and SMEs through market and business development and private sector supporttor improved cook stoves (lCS) and household solar products. in order to support our Kampala energy team we are seeking an energy sector project manager to coordinate both urban and rural market based approaches.

Responsibilities
The expert is responsible for

  • Concept development and provision of support to partner companies and NGOs in regard to successful project management and implementation
  • Providing strong energy sector expertise and coordination with other development partners and governmental entities
  • Coordination of field activities with our up-country offices and partnering NGOs
  • Guiding the development of innovative approaches and pilot projects
  • Assisting the supervisor in his management and technical tasks as well as in the further strategic development of the program

The professional expert performs the following tasks:
The expert is responsible for

  • Development of concepts, strategies and budgets with private sector cook stove and solar companies and NGOs to strengthen their business operations for the achievement of sales and household energy access targets
  • Preparation and management of contracts with partner companies and NGOs as well as consultancies
  • Providing strong expertise within the energy sector and representing GIZ in technical and policy meetings and establishing very good working relations with other relevant stakeholders
  • Project management and regular monitoring to ensure successful implementation of interventions
  • Coordination of field activities with the EnDev Uganda upcountry offices in Gulu and Arua as well as partnering NGOs in addition to regular monitoring and coordination visits to project areas
  • Knowledge management, communication, networking and reporting

Required qualifications, competences and experience Formal education

  • Master's degree in a relevant area such as development studies, renewable energy, environmental management, business or social administration or other related fields
  • Relevant postgraduate qualifications are an added advantage

Professional experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional working experience in a similar position in the energy sector, including at least 3 years of active engagement with the private sector, ideally in a management position ,
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in project management and staff and consultant coordination
  • Comprehensive understanding of the energy sector in Uganda and of international energy trends in regard to household energy access
  • Highly experienced in communication related tasks, concept development and reporting
  • Very good practical and theoretical knowledge about monitoring and verification
  • Experiences in working independently and result oriented with a minimum of supervision
  • Experiences in market based approaches and/or in the household energy sector are added advantages

Other qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and written
  • Outstanding presentation skills
  • Excellent English language skills
  • Computer literacy with good knowledge of MS Office (especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Willingness to continuous learning
