JOB DETAILS:
Job description
The Facilities Mechanic will work under the direction of the HCRI-Uganda Maintenance Engineer. The Job Holder will be responsible for performing independently, tasks of a skilled nature, necessary for the operation, maintenance, repair, and remodeling of UCI- Fred Hutch Cancer Centre facility, grounds, and equipment. The Job Holder must be proficient in mechanical, plumbing and refrigeration maintenance and repair skills.

Responsibilities
• Plumbing: Install and repair plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, garbage disposals, dish washers, and water treatment equipment. Install and repair water piping to include isolating and repairing water leaks and clearing clogged drains.
• Mechanical: Change filters, belts, bearings, and bushings on various equipment and understand how to test for proper alignment / operation. Troubleshoot and diagnose problems related to mechanic equipment malfunctions. Be able to remove and replace defective equipment or parts.
• Electrical: Operate and maintain the electrical system in the buildings to include the operation and maintenance of the backup electrical generator and uninterruptable power supplies (UPS).
• Construction: Repair and maintain the physical building envelope and interior. Repair damaged drywall, doors, and structural components. Seal and repair cracks and tears in and around the building. Replace damaged ceiling tile, floor tile, and wall coverings.
• HVAC: Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC systems. This will include changing air filters, cleaning cooling coils, replacing belts and bearings, and ensuring proper air flow through the ducting. This position must also understand how to balance air pressure in critical areas. The position will also be able to maintain, troubleshoot and repair refrigeration systems (freezers, refrigerators, ice makers, etc.).
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
• Diploma in related engineering field.
• At least five years related experience.
• Proven mechanical aptitude.
• Physical skills necessary to climb, bend, stoop, lift and perform tasks utilizing ladders and scaffolds, etc.
• Must be able to lift 23 kgs.
• Dependable, on-time, and proven good work habits.
• Good communication and computer skills.
• Must be able to work well with others.
• Able to work a flexible schedule for after regular business hour repairs.
• Proven working knowledge in at least two of the following areas: construction, electrical, welding, HVAC, building automation, and water systems.
