Background
St George's, University of London (SGUL), Medical Research Council/Uganda Virus Research Institute and LondonSchool of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine Uganda Research Unit (MRC/UVRI and LSHTM), London School of Hygiene& Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), Queen Mary’s, University of London (QMUL), Brighton Medical and Dental School(BMDS), and King’s College London (KCL) have been awarded funds for a clinical doctoral training programme(CREATE) that aims to develop a blended cohort of African and UK fellows working in Global Health. The doctoralfellowships are 3-4 years in length and are full time. The fellowships are open to any suitably qualified clinical andhealthcare professional (including but not limited to doctors, nurses, midwives, radiographers, social scientists).Candidates are expected to have at least a Masters before applying.Together with an expert international faculty of supervisors, the PhD fellows will have the opportunity to developthe evidence base for some of the major global health challenges in Uganda. They will receive a bespokeprogramme of training to develop the skills and networks that will allow them to become future experts in globalhealth. PhD fellowships are intended to commence on 1st Jan 2023 and will have a duration of up to 48 months.As part of this programme, we aim to identify one internationally competitive national of an African country tofill the available PhD fellowship position. The PhD programme is open to all suitably qualified candidates whowant to undertake research focused on the major global health challenges in Africa within any of the three majorprojects as outlined in the PhD Projects Table.
Fellow Eligibility
Applicants must be nationals of an African country and be suitably qualified to enter a PhD programme at SGUL.We expect that the successful applicant will have a track-record of academic excellence, with a first class or uppersecond class (or equivalent) undergraduate degree in a healthcare discipline and a relevant Master’s degree.Applicants who do not have these qualifications but believe that they have equivalent relevant researchexperience should explain this clearly in the application form.
