Organizational Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Regional Deployment Stock (RDS) Unit within the Forward Support Deployment Hub (FSDH), part of the Office of Supply Chain Management (OSCM) in the Department of Operational Support (DOS). The role is based in the Regional Service Centre in Entebbe, Uganda, and the incumbent reports to the Chief of Planning and Sourcing Support Section (PSSS) of the United Nations Global Service Centre.
The Department of Operational Support (DOS) provides operational advisory services to UN entities, including field missions, regional commissions, and offices away from headquarters. The Forward Support Deployment Hub (FSDH) in Entebbe supports efficient logistics and supply chain management for regional and ad hoc operational requirements. The RDS Unit plays a critical role in providing logistical support for deployments across the region.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Chief of PSSS, the Chief of Unit, Logistics (RDS) is responsible for the following duties:
1. Supervisory Functions:
o Oversee all logistics support for the Regional Deployment Stock (RDS).
o Manage logistics operations, including forecasting, supply schedules, and resolution of urgent operational needs.
2. Logistics Coordination:
o Develop and monitor logistics support plans, including warehouse management for RDS.
o Ensure efficient logistics support for military, police, and substantive components of missions.
o Provide guidance and technical advice to other UN entities operating in the mission area.
3. Management Duties:
o Supervise the preparation and execution of the unit budget.
o Oversee multifunctional logistics operations, ensuring coordination with UNGSC and field missions.
4. Strategic Support:
o Assist in the development of logistics policies and procedures.
o Act as the principal liaison for logistics matters between the mission and the UN Global Service Centre.
o Advise senior management on logistics operations, structures, and staffing.
5. Data Analysis and Reporting:
o Collect and analyze logistics data to identify trends and inform decision-making.
o Use data visualization tools to create reports, dashboards, and presentations.
6. Team Leadership:
o Manage and evaluate staff performance.
o Organize and lead logistics meetings to address ongoing and emerging challenges.
7. Other Duties:
o Ensure logistics operations consider gender-specific needs.
o Perform additional responsibilities as required by the Chief of PSSS.
