Uganda Youth Development Link (UYDEL) is a non-profit organization that started in 1993 with a mission of enhancing socio-economic transformation of disadvantaged young people (10- 24 years) both in and out of school, through evidence based interventions that: advocate; create linkages to services and information; and encourage social and livelihood skills development for self-reliance. The Organization’s mandate is to forge a better future for the young people through; advocating for children and young people’s rights; Improving youth employability and economic opportunities and Improving family and community resilience to urban and rural poverty. The Organization envisions a transformed society where children and young people live a good quality free from exploitation with direct presence in eight districts in Uganda operating thirteen Youth Friendly drop in centers.
KCCA with the support from UNICEF is implementing together with UYDEL a social protection programme for adolescent girls in the city through the adolescent girls’ cash plus mentoring and empowerment programme to improve their social and economic inclusion, and protection.
UYDEL is looking for 150 peer mentors to provide mentorship support to 750 out of school adolescent girls in 4 divisions of Kampala. The peer mentors will be working with the out of school adolescent girls to mentor, act as role models, skills and vocational building as well as referral to social services. The Peer Mentor reports to the Lead Mentor..
Specification: we are looking for; young women role models/mentors who are
• Between the ages of 18 to 30 and living in and from within the selected divisions.
• Should have completed A Level certificate or University graduates.
• Highly developed interpersonal skills in order to meet the demanding needs of adolescent girls.
• Demonstrates a positive attitude and acts as a positive role model.
• Good listening skills and the ability to communicate effectively
• Enthusiastic, motivated, hardworking and inspirational
• Knowledgeable, ability to share and team leadership skills
• Should have report writing and excellent communication skills
• Computer and technology skills - use of smartphones, gadgets for research
• Ability to model positive behaviour for the girls in the community.
• Should be willing to mentor and work closely with other girls in the community
