JOB DETAILS:
Evaluation of Antiretroviral Therapy Toxicities and Surveillance Practices in Uganda
MakSPH is conducting an evaluation of Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) toxicities and surveillance practices across several health facilities in Uganda. The project team is seeking qualified, responsible, and competent individuals to join the research team on a short-term basis. The available positions are as follows:
1. Biostatistician (1 Position)
Position Status: Short-term contract
Reports to: Principal Investigator
Summary of Responsibilities:
• Supervise collection of quantitative data.
• Conduct data cleaning and manipulation to generate analyzable datasets.
• Analyze quantitative data, particularly longitudinal datasets and time series data.
• Develop statistical models and perform data analyses using appropriate software (e.g., Stata, R, SAS).
• Conduct quality control of statistical data, ensuring the validity and reliability of the analysis.
• Collaborate with the study team to interpret results and contribute to the preparation of reports and publications.
• Contribute to the design and implementation of data analysis plans and methodologies.
• Support the development of reports and manuscripts from analysis.
• Perform other tasks as assigned by the Principal Investigator.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
• Master’s degree in Biostatistics or a closely related field (or nearly completed).
• Proficiency in statistical software: Stata, R, or SAS (candidates must be highly competent in at least one).
• Experience in analyzing longitudinal datasets and time series data is essential.
• Strong background in statistical modeling and data analysis techniques.
• Experience in managing and analyzing health-related data, especially HIV-related data, is an added advantage.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and meet deadlines.
2. Qualitative Data Analyst (1 Position)
Position Status: Short-term contract
Reports to: Principal Investigator
Summary of Responsibilities:
• Assist in the development of data collection tools, including interview guides.
• Contribute to the training of research assistants and pre-testing of study tools.
• Supervise qualitative data collection and transcription of audio recordings.
• Analyze qualitative data and ensure quality control throughout the analysis process.
• Compile and submit regular progress reports on data collection and preliminary findings.
• Ensure data security and proper backup (both soft and hard copies).
• Contribute to writing the final qualitative report.
• Perform other tasks as assigned by the Study Coordinator.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
• Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Public Health, or a related field, with specialized training in qualitative data analysis.
• Proven experience in qualitative data analysis using specialized software (e.g., NVivo, Atlas.ti).
• At least one published article using qualitative research methods.
• Strong writing skills and experience in report preparation.
3. Quantitative Research Assistant (10 Positions)
Position Status: Short-term contract
Reports to: Study Coordinator
Summary of Responsibilities:
• Assist in data collection following the study protocol.
• Respond to questions from respondents during data collection.
• Participate in data validation to ensure data quality.
• Provide daily updates on fieldwork, including completed interviews and any issues encountered.
• Work independently with minimal supervision, meeting deadlines.
• Perform other tasks as assigned by the Study Coordinator or data collection team leaders.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Sciences, Public Health, Statistics, or a related discipline.
• Certificate in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) or Human Subject Protection is required.
• Experience with electronic data collection using tablets or mobile phones.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Prior experience in extracting health data, particularly from ART clinics.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to follow study-specific procedures and guidelines reliably.
4. Qualitative Research Assistant (5 Positions)
Position Status: Short-term contract
Reports to: Study Coordinator
Summary of Responsibilities:
• Assist in data collection according to the study protocol.
• Answer respondent questions and ensure data quality through validation.
• Provide daily updates on fieldwork, including completed interviews.
• Participate in qualitative data collection (interviews, focus groups) and analysis.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Study Coordinator or data collection team leaders.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Humanities, Social Sciences, Public Health, or a related field, with demonstrated experience in qualitative data collection and analysis.
• Certificate in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) or Human Subject Protection is required.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Prior experience in health data collection, including qualitative interviews.
• Experience interviewing healthcare workers or facility managers is an advantage.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and meet deadlines.
5. Data Officer (1 Position)
Position Status: Short-term contract
Reports to: Study Coordinator
Summary of Responsibilities:
• Coordinate all data collection and management processes.
• Assist in reviewing and updating data management manuals and training materials.
• Design data cleaning, analysis, and reporting tools as needed.
• Verify raw data submitted from the field.
• Generate and resolve data queries with field teams.
• Compile and maintain regular reports on data entry, validation, and cleaning.
• Conduct preliminary data analysis.
• Ensure data security and proper backup (both soft and hard copies).
• Perform other tasks as assigned by the Study Coordinator.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Experience in electronic data management, including managing data from various sources and conducting preliminary analysis.
• Experience with data entry programming tools such as KoboToolbox or SurveyMonkey is an advantage.
• Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., Stata or R).
