JOB DETAILS:
Alliance Forum for Development-AFOD Uganda is a non-profit, non-governmental organization working with humanitarian and development partners to address the needs of conflict-affected populations, rural and urban poor communities in Uganda to address their real needs in areas of health, nutrition, food security and livelihoods, environmental health, protection, and psychosocial support and research.

AFOD Uganda is looking for dynamic, experienced, and qualified Ugandans to fill the positions of Agribusiness Development Assistant (Retailer Engagement).

Terms of Reference (TOR)
Reports to: Cash Based Transfer Manager
Location: Moyo/Obongi & Adjumani Field Offices

Job Summary / Purpose: The Agri-Business Development Assistant shall be responsible for Retail Engagement in the area of operation, in close collaboration with the Country Office Program unit and responsible WFP field office.

Major Duties and responsibilities
• Assist in carrying out market assessments to identify main inefficiencies and opportunities to strengthen local markets;
• Support in coordinating with field staff, DLG (local government), and WFP to set up market-strengthening activities;
• Support the implementation of market-strengthening activities such as improving linkages between farmers, suppliers, and markets;
• Assist in organizing training for traders and farmer groups on the fundamentals of retail strength assortment, quality, price service, and financial literacy;
• Assist in developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for retail engagement activities;
• Assist in organizing retailers/traders into VSLA/SACCO;
• Support with the definition and implementation of key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure success and mitigate risks associated with retail engagement;
• Support MEAL Officer and WFP field team on market data monitoring and measure the retail against the annual target;
• Carry out any other relevant duty assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualification
• A University Degree obtained from a recognized education institution in any of the following areas: Agribusiness, Development Studies, Economics, Business Management, Finance Management, Marketing, Supply Chain or other related area;
• At least three (3) years of progressively responsible support experience in retail, Sales, Distribution, and manufacturing.
• Experience in rural development projects and/or operational aspects of commercial transactions.
• Experience in Cash Based Transfer programs and/or digital payment solutions such as mobile money, and agency banking

Core Competences
In addition to the above qualifications and experience, the applicant should possess the following Core competencies:
• Analytical mind with attention to detail, be able to multi-task.
• Proficient in MS Office.
• Excellent influencing and communication skills, both written and verbal
• Good training skills, hardworking, calm, mature, logical, culturally sensitive, result- oriented, and interest in humanitarian development.
• Able to operate effectively and efficiently in a high-pressure and fast-paced department with the flexibility to adapt to changes.
• Strong communication skills and willingness to follow up with individuals and departments to achieve goals.
• Able to operate with compassion and impartiality and demonstrate a high level of sensitivity and respect towards beneficiaries of all ages, locations, and ethnic backgrounds.
