Our client is one of the leading multinational companies in the gas and electricity sector with a global presence, operating in 30 countries and with nearly 18 million customers. The Company's fully owned subsidiary in Uganda is focused on the operation, maintenance and management of hydro-power stations. The Company requires competent individuals for various positions for a hydro power plant in Achwa, near Gulu in Northern Uganda. MECHANICAL TECHNICAN (2 Positions)
Main Purpose of the Job
Maintain all the mechanical equipment in the power plant such as turbines, pumps, valves, gates, fans etc.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical maintenance and repair activities as directed by the Operations and Maintenance Engineer
  • Identify and address equipment malfunctions in mechanical equipment and systems, recommend corrective action, and on approval make repairs or facilitates improvements under the supervision of the Operations and Maintenance Engineer ‘
  • Set up and operate machine tools to repair or reproduce machine parts and fittings, with reference to blueprints or defective parts.
  • Detect, analyze, propose and implement modifications in the facilities that improve the maintainability of the plant.
  • interpret detailed engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Diagnose and repair faults on equipment, deal with new situations as they arise and pass on knowledge to others.
  • Report performance issues relating to mechanical services, and equipment to the Operations and Maintenance Engineer
  • Assist in the investigation of accidents and dangerous occurrences within the department.
  • Carry out all work in accordance to applicable procedures, technical instructions and safety standards.
  • Use all relevant tools, machinery and equipment to comply with current Health 8t Safety Legislation.

Key Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum Diploma is Electrical and/or Mechanical Engineering
  • At least 3 + years’ experience in a similar role
  • Demonstrated understanding of handing large mechanical equipment
