JOB DETAILS:
JOB OVERVIEW
The Operator-Water treatment plant is responsible for the daily operation of both the treatment plant for the fish processing facility and the treatment plant for the canteen and drinking water. The incumbent operates machines and equipment, collects and tests water samples, maintains records of meter and gauge readings, and adds chemicals according to protocols. The work schedule is set to the operational needs of a 7-day-a-week facility and statutory requirements.

KEY DUTIES
• Daily operation of both water treatment plants (Processing plant and Canteen plant).
• Monitor water to ensure the production of clean and safe water that complies with the national standards for potable water.
• Daily backwashing of the sand and carbon filters as well as mechanical hydra filters.
• Oversee operations of pumps, gauges, and other treatment plant equipment.
• Carry out minor maintenance or repairs to the equipment.
• Routinely work hand in hand with the Laboratory team to perform a chlorine demand test to establish the minimal dose of chlorine required for water disinfection.
• Chemical dosing and monitoring of Chlorine disinfectant daily.
• Hourly sampling and testing of water to ensure the presence of sufficient amounts of chlorine.
• Daily PH checks of water in the laboratory.
• Daily cleaning of the plant and its surroundings and proper housekeeping of all equipment around the plant.
• Weekly cleaning of all water storage tanks to ensure compliance with sanitary standards.
• Keep daily records of all monitoring processes.
• Effectively communicates operating status to other shifts and management as needed to maintain efficient operation.
• Communicates quickly and effectively on issues with systems and equipment to maintenance or supervisor.

EDUCATION AND REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS
• Diploma in Chemical Engineering or Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, with training in Water Treatment and Plumbing.
• At least 1 year of working experience, preferably in water treatment systems.
• Analytical and good problem-solving skills.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to follow written and verbal directions, ensure follow-through on assignments, and seek assistance or report concerns when needed.
• Proactive problem-solver who can manage difficult situations with positive results.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Ability to work unsupervised and under pressure with tight deadlines.
• High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Good knowledge of Computer basics; MS Office Word and Spreadsheets.
