RTI International is implementing the United States Agency for international Development (USAID) funded Literacy Achievement and Retention Activity under Cooperative Agreement # AlD-617A-15-0O009. The 5-year USAID/Uganda Literacy Achievement and Retention Activity is expanding the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) early grade reading program and supporting the implementation of the National Strategic Plan on Violence against Children in Schools (VACiS) 2015—2020. it seeks to reinforce the implementation of the MoES 2014 Reporting, Tracking, Referral, and Response RTRR) Guidelines in the 28 implementation districts.
The project seeks to fill positions in 10 districts across Uganda including Bukomansimbi, Mukono, Rakai, Mityana, Sembabule, Gomba, Gulu, Lira, Omoro and Oyam. This position will be for at least 6 months.
POSITION TITLE: Program Coordinators (2)
The role of the Program Coordinator is fourfold: 1) Ensure fidelity in Community level activity implementation, 2) Provide technical assistance and training support for Journeys activities to orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) implementing partners at community, 3) Represent the project to clients, stakeholders, and partners at district and school level, and 4) Capture learning ensuring that monitoring, learning and adaptation is captured, disseminated at the school-level and shared and discussed with MoES and other key district partners. The position reports directly to the Technical Advisor and is based in Kampala office with 75% time in the districts.
S/he will lead the implementation of Journeys for community activities among community members to ignite the commitment of community members and change agents. S/he will inspire school- and community-driven initiatives that will implement prevention of VACiS and MoES RTRR in the community.
S/he will work with other OVC implementing partners to conduct participatory and reflective trainings for Change agent teams in the community who will cascade the use of these same interactive methods to promote an atmosphere of caring and support for all learners in the community.
This position will work closely with the Technical Advisor and the Senior Program Specialist to train OVC partners and two change agents from each community in Journeys tor Communities and INSPIRE Strategy for engaging parent and caregiver support and response and support services. S/he will work with child protection actors to catalyze access to, progress on, and resolution of referral services for victims / survivors of VACiS.
Qualifications: Masters degree or Bachelor’s degree in Education and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in violence against children prevention and familiar with child protection actors and interventions at community level or a combination of education and experience in a similar capacity.
