The National Forestry Authority (NFA) is a Government agency established under the National Forestry and Tree Planting Act, 2003 as a corporate body responsible for sustainable development and management of Central Forest Reserves (CFRs) and provision of technical support to stakeholders in the forestry sub-sector.
NFA’s vision is “A world class, global leader in sustainable forest management’’, while it’s Mission is “To sustainably manage and develop the country’s Central Forest Reserves and to provide quality forestry products and services for the socio-economic development of Uganda”.
NFA seeks to recruit a qualified Ugandan to fill the following position.
POSITION: 3 Eco-Tourism Supervisors
Reports to: Sector Manager
Duty Station: Field Offices/Transferable
Salary Scale: NFA 7
Terms of Employment: Three (3) year contract (Renewable)
Job summary: Effective management of eco-tourism sites and attractions for conservation and sustainable management of Central Forest Reserves.
Duties and responsibilities
• Implement guidelines for managing ecotourism sites and attractions.
• Supervise and monitor the implementation of ecotourism activities and plans.
• Participate in formulation of partnership agreements and MOUs between NFA, forest adjacent communities, public and private institutions and implement them.
• Provide technical support and participate in identification and development of ecotourism sites and attractions in CFRs.
• Implement strategies for efficient revenue collection from both licensed and NFA operated sites.
• Prepare situational and progress reports.
• Network with relevant District Local Government, Local Communities, private institutions and partners in promoting of ecotourism.
• Supervise, appraise, coach, mentor and build staff capacity including patrol Personnel and Tour Guides.
• Maintain visitors’ register.
• Ensure safety of visitors and NFA assets.
• Manage bookings and reservations and participate in exhibitions and fairs to market and promote ecotourism products in CFRs.
• Brief and provide nature interpretation to tourists and other stakeholders.
• Develop forest trails and other infrastructure and ensure that they are regularly maintained.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications, work experience and interpersonal attributes/competences
• Minimum of a Diploma in Tourism Management from a recognized institution.
• Bachelor’s degree in Tourism Management or related field is an added advantage.
• At least two (2) years working experience in a similar or related position in a reputable organization.
• Basic knowledge of forestry and environmental management, well developed customer care skills and knowledge of tour guiding and nature interpretation.
• Minimum of 25 years of age.
• Interpersonal, team building and organizational skills.
• Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
• Ability to manage ecotourism value chain.
• Customer care, presentable, etiquette and marketing.
• Knowledge of human resource, financial management and administration.
• High level of integrity, resilience and reliability.
• Entrepreneurial ability, acumen and result-oriented.
