JOB DETAILS:
Duty Station: Rwenzori, West Nile, Soroti, Luwero
Reports To: Regional Team Lead
Job Summary: The job holder provides technical support and guidance to health facilities in laboratory services management, reagents forecasting, reporting, equipment management and LMIS. Follows up on CD4 monitoring, AHD diagnosis and monitoring, viral load activities, collaborating with lab hubs for off-site tests, support quality control activities coordinating with national bodies UVRI, CPHL to align with national and international standards.
Roles and Responsibilities:
• Work with health facilities to quantify and forecast laboratory commodities needed
• Train and mentor health workers in Good Pharmaceutical Practices (GPP).
• Assess the regional, district and facility laboratory supply chain processes and identify key performance indicators in need of improvement such as Results Turn Around Times, utilization of GeneXpert testing
• Facilitate the recording and reporting of laboratory data in paper-based registers and in the EMR LMIS
• Build capacity of laboratory staff through training and mentorship
• Support biosafety systems in UEC laboratories
• Facilitate laboratory equipment servicing and maintenance systems
• Facilitate redistribution of laboratory commodities between over-stocked facilities and those which are understocked
• Support disposal and waste management of expired commodities and laboratory waste
• Serve as the link between UEC supported facility laboratories and CPHL, UNHLS for delivery of quality HIV/TB services.
• Collaborate with District Laboratory Focal Persons (DLFPs) and laboratory advisors from other implementing partners to support provision of quality laboratory services
• Support the accreditation of new laboratories while maintaining accreditation status of existing laboratories in schemes such as SANAS, UKNEQAS
• Support internal and external laboratory test quality assurance (IQA, EQA)
• Facilitate the preparation and circulation of periodic and ad-hoc laboratory reports for use in planning and performance management.
• Any other duty that may be assigned from time to time
Qualifications and competencies:
• Degree or Diploma in Medical Laboratory Services or related field
• Knowledge in training, mentorship and technically sound
• Strategic decision making and leadership
• Risk management
• Teamwork, networking and good interpersonal skills
• Certification in GLP is an added advantage
• Experience working with HIV, TB or related public health projects is an added advantage
