About Naamizi TISD-UNHCR Project:
Nsamizi is an Implementing Partner (IP) for UNHCR that positively contributes towards improving sustainable living standards of refugees and other persons of Concern, through; Provision of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Livelihoods and Environment & Energy services in refugee and hosting populations. With funding from UNHCR, Nsamizi Training Institute of Social Development, is to carryout recruitment of staff to work on its UNHCR funded project in Kyangwali refugee settlement.

Job
Summary: The Public Health Promotion Assistant will provide support to the refugee operation in relation to ensuring that public Health promotion activities rolled out in line with UNHCR WASH implementation guidelines and principles

Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Work with the community and local administration, to ensure that the public health promotion needs of the population are met
• Advising on Sanitation and hygiene promotion programming in broad coordination with other sectors
• Implement and supervise Public Health Promotion activities in the project area in an interactive and participatory manner.
• Manage mobilization of the refugee and host communities to promote hygiene practices, public sanitation, with more emphasis on monitoring latrine use, water collection storage, environmental sanitation and hand washing practices.
• Co-facilitate community problem identification including planning & formulation of action plans, development of MOUs and hand over of WASH facilities, implementation of community activities, participatory monitoring and evaluation-using community mobilization, sensitization techniques
• Work closely with community-based institutions, community health volunteers, and local level government officials, undertake community mobilization and their capacity building to achieve quality WASH services
• Be involved in designing and training of refugee and host community operation and maintenance technicians and or supervise trainings organized by district partners
• Undertake field visits to supervise and assist in implementation of the activities and take appropriate measures to tackle operational challenges affecting implementation processes and quality of interventions

Qualifications, Skills and Experience
• The ideal candidate for the Nsamizi Public Health Promotion Officer Job should preferably hold a Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Community development or another relevant field
• At least 3 years practical experience in in community health and environmental programmes, preferably in emergency refugee programmes
• Atleast two years practical experience in community mobilization and organization and appropriate community health and sanitation programmes in humanitarian context
• Practical experience of hygiene promotion
• Good understanding of the health and hygiene risks of those affected or at risk of contracting Choler’s and urban communities and of appropriate ways of tackling them. Must be aware of and sensitive to the needs of women in this context
• Ability to present concise reports, sometimes at short notice, reflecting the problems and possible solutions for situations
• Flexibility and ease in working with local people have diplomacy, tact and administrative skills to work with people at managerial level, and occasionally government
• Developed interpersonal and team skills and proven ability to be flexible in demanding situation.
