JOB DETAILS:
Job Purpose / Objective:
i. Responsible to operate the backhoe, a versatile heavy construction machine with a digging bucket on one end and a loader bucket on the other.
ii. Efficiently operate the backhoe, perform digging and excavation tasks, and contribute to the successful execution of road projects.

Job Roles and Responsibilities:
1. Backhoe Operation: Safely and skilfully operate the backhoe to perform digging, excavation, and trenching tasks as required for the road construction project.
2. Excavation and Trenching: Execute precise excavation and trenching work to meet project specifications and requirements.
3. Material Handling: Use the backhoe's loader bucket to load and transport materials to designated locations on the construction site.
4. Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols for the safe operation of the backhoe and work in a manner that minimizes risks to personnel and equipment.
5. Equipment Maintenance: Conduct routine inspections of the backhoe and report any mechanical issues or maintenance requirements promptly.
6. Material Distribution: Collaborate with other construction team members to distribute materials accurately to specified locations as needed.
7. Communication: Effectively communicate with the Backhoe Operator Supervisor and other team members to coordinate tasks and ensure efficient workflow.
8. Project Support: Assist other construction crew members in various tasks as required to contribute to the overall progress of the road construction project.
9. Environmental Awareness: Follow environmentally responsible practices during backhoe operations to minimize environmental impact.
10. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of daily operations, including work hours, fuel usage, and equipment maintenance.
11. Safety Compliance: Follow all safety regulations and protocols for the safe operation of the grader and work in a manner that minimizes risks to personnel and equipment.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess the following qualifications and skills:
1. Excavation Efficiency: Measure the ability to efficiently perform excavation and trenching tasks with the backhoe.
2. Trench Accuracy: Evaluate the precision of trenching work, ensuring adherence to specified dimensions and depths.
3. Safety Compliance: Track adherence to safety protocols and the number of incidents or accidents during backhoe operation.
4. Equipment Maintenance: Assess the frequency and urgency of backhoe maintenance requirements.
5. Team Collaboration: Evaluate the ability to work well with other construction team members and supervisors.
6. Project Progress: Monitor and report on the completion of backhoe tasks as per project timelines.
7. Adherence to Specifications: Ensure compliance with project specifications and excavation guidelines.
8. Material Utilization: Evaluate the efficient use of construction materials during backhoe operations.
9. Environmental Impact: Monitor and minimize the environmental impact of backhoe activities.

Work Experience, Skills and Knowledge:
1. Back hoe Operation Skills: Proficient in operating and controlling the backhoe accurately and efficiently.
2. Safety Consciousness: Knowledge of safety procedures and a strong commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
3. Technical Knowledge: Understanding of backhoe mechanics and troubleshooting minor mechanical issues.
4. Communication: Ability to effectively communicate with supervisors and team members to coordinate tasks and report issues.
5. Excavation Expertise: Experience and knowledge of excavation techniques, including trenching and digging.
6. Team Player: Willingness to collaborate and support other construction team members to achieve project objectives.
7. Environmental Awareness: Knowledge of environmental regulations and practices to minimize the environmental impact of backhoe operations.
8. Physical Endurance: Ability to withstand long hours of operating heavy machinery and performing excavation tasks.
9. Record Keeping: Capability to maintain accurate records of daily operations and equipment maintenance.
10. Valid driver's license: Possession of a valid driver’s license and any relevant certifications.
11. Qualification: Ordinary Level Certificate and / or Certification in
Dozer Operation / related technical field.
12. Professional experience: Minimum of three years’ busy commercial working experience.
